Lions take CB Will Johnson at 28.
Schrager is decently connected and he was trying to make this a “what I’m hearing” mock draft.
If we draft Will Johnson, that means that we are going to have the greatest secondary of all time.

I don’t think this will happen unless the Lions really believe Johnson is a sub 4.5 guy. He didn’t run a 40. There seem to be real questions about his speed which is obviously a big problem for CBs in man. I keep seeing him mocked to a lot of zone teams.
Crazy though to think he could fall this far. He was consistently a top 10 pick all year.
No Derrick Harmon in the first either. I keep hearing injury issues there.
Donovan Ezeiruaku and Burden falling out too
I would be really surprised if we didn’t take Stewart there.
Sadly this mock feels the most realistic than most.
I like Mason Graham, but never got the “lock” in the top 5-7 overall for a 296 pound DT that didn’t test and has solid but somewhat modest production (9 career sacks)
Same with Stewart- he was expected to be 6’5” and 280, treated lights out at 267- but still had a sub 80 rating, and only 4.5 career sacks
I think JTT or Stewart would be our pick in this case.
It happened to Johnny Newton last year
Donovan Ezeruaku will go to Titans round 2
They could go that for sure
issue is Titans need Wide Recievers they have…Calvin Ridley?
thats about it.
and their Oline is also quite pourous still
they have lots of issues.
Walter Nolan over Mason Graham
Also Bronco go WR I like that
I feel like he is just giving Harbaugh & Lions guys from U of M just because
I will also saay
DJ’s final mock should be today, and thats usually a good indicator of whos being taken in the first
hes usually like 60 perent correct on those picks aswell.
Not exactly gospel, but the hit-rate is telling.
I can buy Peter and others having a good read on the top 15 or so, but I think once you get past there, too many variables come into play.
Like, he’s heard the Lions like Will Johnson as a player? So, if he falls he’s a Lion. That part I don’t buy.
The Lions have their two outside starters and a second round rook from last year in the wings. Amik and others round out the room.
Sure, you can never have enough corners, but this is too rich, even if they see him as BPA.
You’d have to think that if Will Johnson were there at 28, some team would come calling to move up for him.
I just don’t see this. But I’ve scratched my head just about every Brad draft so far, so maybe this fits the bill.
If Will is there at 28 you take him and figure out the secondary from there Terrion/Reed/Johnson with Amik/Rake/Maddox that CB room is great
Johnson is the best pure CB in the draft. He isn’t dropping to 28.
And if he does we should all feel thrilled to get him.
If we go CB round 1 then signing DJ Reed was a bad move.
At this point the best way to improve our secondary is by adding pass rush
Yep. If the DL gets beat up bad again, that’s spells big trouble. Gotta beef it up.
Why? The Lions have Reed, Arnold, Rakestraw, and Dorsey beyond this year. If Amik has another year like he did last year, he’s going to price himself out of a second-contract with the Lions. We don’t know what we have in Rake and Dorsey is a ST guy.
CBs are expensive and like Brad says about CBs and WRs - you can never have enough of them. Not saying CB in the first is ideal, but if a guy like Will Johnson is sitting there are 28, you gotta take the best football player.
Amik won’t have another year like last year if he has DJ Reed, Rakestraw, and a 1st rounder ahead of him. And Arnold on the other side.
We should lean into what we saw from Amik, you won’t find a better #3 CB in the league than him.
If we are LITERALLY going to spend a 1st round, 1st round, 2nd round, 3rd round, 3rd round pick on CB position the last 2 years…
…and you guys don’t see that as overkill? And still want to sign DJ Reed 15 mil per year?
And not get a 4th round comp pick back?
It doesn’t matter…we are NOT DRAFTING A CB round 1 so this convo is pointless.
EDIT @Thats2 why are you clapping? You don’t draft BPA anyways!
There it isn’t chance in hell Detroit passes on Starks if he makes it to 28 without the Lions trading up for him. Will Johnson is not cut from the same cloth as the lions.
Of course this is my opinion. I have heard how good he is and Detroit would be ecstatic if they got him…but ultimately who knows…but given this mock…i’d shocked if they passed on him.
If the draft played out like this
Detroit would take Stewart
Commies would take Starks
Bills would take Will Johnson
My opinion
…and you guys don’t see that as overkill?
Dude, we had all these guys and more last season and had Stantley Oliver-Thomas playing an actual defensive role in the playoff game.
Detroit would take Stewart
we know they like him, so that is a solid guess.
