Peter Skoronski #6 pick

His combination of athleticism : 9.28 as a tackle, 9.89 as a guard) quickness, footwork, balance, hand usage, and perfect technique are the driving forces in that projection.

Guard rating is top 10 ever. And Ras is elite.

I just don’t get it. We kept V and signed glasgow. that would be an expensive bench.

Guards can be had in later rounds…such as our current pro bowl guard on the other side.

I also don’t get the strategy of saying we need to draft deckers replacement. That’s a few years away and not a current need as opposed to our defense.

Grab a guard in the 3rd.

Need a game changer at #6. D Line all the way!

I still think we trade up for Will Anderson

Warford, Glasgow, Jonah - All 3rd rounders. I’m with you!

Matt Nelson and Vatai are our backup Tackles.
Vatai plays both. Glasgow plays Guard and Center.
Skoronski plays Guard and Tackle.
Imagine only needing 4 backup OL players.
How expensive is the line, now?

Novel concept…no draft pick will walk in as a starter. All will have to earn it.

But in NFL terms they are 6 feet longer than Kancey’s…

This is the 12th post on Skoronski at #6

That being said we are set up to go bpa… if he is the next all pro guard you take him. His granddaddy was a captain on vince Lombardi’s team.

I think we fill this position later in the draft and look for immediate impact players in the 1st… 6OA is too high for a guard, even Nelson IMO. Looking to the 2024 season, we’re going to have a need at both guard spots as well as NB/S, CB, WR, and to a lesser extent DE, I expect players at these positions in round 2 and beyond. Our biggest hole on the roster now is DT, I expect they take one at 6 or 18

If he is the pick I would understand and not be mad, but I am rooting against it. Just doesn’t make sense committing that many resources to one position group, especially when his long term position is probably at guard.

We are talking about talking him at 6, which is one spot higher than Sewell. I understand that class was loaded, but Sewell is/was a WAY better prospect than Skoronski.

If he’s a guard, and you don’t draft guards that high, what’s the likelyhood he’s still available at 18? And if he is, does it make sense to grab him at that point?

I want a defensive difference maker at 6. At 18, though? I could be talked into an elite guard/tackle, I think.

All I can tell you is that the Lions have turned Jared Goff into an arguably top 10 QB, a guy that was a throw-in from the Rams. And they had a career journeyman RB beat the record of the greatest player in franchise history. I love me some trenches. I would take another great offensive lineman over a RB 10 times out of 10. Way more impactful IMO.

Oh, I’d be mad. Taking a guard (and yes, he’s more likely to be guard than tackle at the NFL level) who won’t even start in Year 1 at #6 would confuse the hell out of me. He’ll likely be a solid player and a long time starter in the NFL but this is a safe pick and I think it’s a mistake to go safe at 6. The only pick that would be worse is Tight End.

I’d take, of the realistic options, any of Wilson, Van Ness, Smith, Carter (obviously), Kancey (even with his baby hands), Johnston, JSN, Gonzalez, Witherspoon, Bijan or Paris Johnson over Skoronski.
Oh yeah, Levis or Richardson too.

I don’t know enough about Skoronski. But if he can play at a high level at both tackle and guard. Give us positional versatility, ability to fill-in for injuries, and address an immediate need for help at guard, then I would say that’s a great pick in this rather weak top 10 with reaches like Richardson, Levis, and Wilson talked about as top 10 picks.

Darn good post. I don’t completely agree with OL over RB 10 out of 10 times. I leave room for the next Adrian Peterson the same way I leave room for the next Quenton Nelson. Maybe it’s 9 out of 10.
