We’re at the quarter pole. Time to stop giving this guy a pass. Clearly the defense is a dumpster fire. That goes without saying, but the offense has also been majorly disappointing. The line is better than last year, we have all our skill players except dmo or an equivalent replacement but the drop off is real. I don’t care that we avg 30 points. Most of those points look like 2nd half empty calories. This O looks just as bad or worse than Johnny Moe’s offense. We have yet to score 2 TDs in the first half. We’ve scored 7, 10, 10 and 16 points in the 1st half of the games. We were down 21-0 to buffalo. We have a total of 10 points in the first 2 possessions of all 4 games. These are the scripted drives. We only had 19 pts with just 4mins left in the game vs a Panthers team that put both starting CBs on IR days before the game. Thats only 3 points for damn near the whole 2nd half. We have a 4th place schedule that’s one of the easiest in the league, but we’re clearly struggling. The defense has been historically bad but its been bad for the whole DC regime yet Ben was able to outscore teams enough to get wins. We have no chance if the O can’t play up to its potential on a regular basis. If we cant win the division or finish 2nd with a 4th place schedule then maybe we should be a lot closer to cleaning house than we expected coming into the season.
The first series is scripted, right?
Those scripted plays tend to be awful. We’ve looked terrible on our first series every game so far. I’d he’s writing the script it should be sent to the trash heap and rewritten.
This is just a silly take IMO
They are 5th in the NFL in points scored per game.
Petzing is light-years ahead of Morton… Goff was missing wide open guys the other night… Still work to do, but Petzing isn’t dropping passes or throwing to ghosts, he’s not getting drive killing penalties with the game on the line either
It’s too many stars on the offense to be stalling for FGs and slow starts out of the gate. It’s unacceptable yet some folks defend this offense. Average pts per game can be deceiving. This offense is struggling. Honestly, I don’t think it has anything to do with Petzing. The players have gotten paid and they don’t care. It’s about podcast, and other stupid sh?t outside of football. These cats don’t breathe and eat football anymore IMO. You see it on the sidelines. Saint Brown should be demanding excellence from each and every player.
While I don’t disagree, I’m not entirely certain St Brown hasn’t lost some of the fire he showed before he got his bag. His drops have increased on some very catchable balls. His focus just doesn’t seem to be the same.
Petzig: Offense shits the bed when they have the lead. Offense shits the bed when they have an opportunity. 2nd half of Buffalo was absolute Stat Padford
He seems to be caught up in his own Kool-Aid
He’s nowhere near as creative as Ben Johnson, but during regular, no-pressure game time he’s been pretty good.
What worries me is when the pressure is on. I haven’t liked what I have seen at that point. Bad, nonsensical play calling during those times.
Hopefully our blitz pickup will be better with Mays at centre, Scruggs do better as expected as backup but its not his bread and butter.
All in all, I’m not worried about our offense, that energy is going entirely to the other side of the ball.
Not trying to argue, but don’t you think that stat is a little padded due to circumstance? The circumstance being that we’re getting hammered early by other teams and then playing catch up on soft prevent defenses so our offensive stats look great but are missing some of that context….
Starting the game better, and finishing in the red zone - those are two areas that would greatly help our offense.
i am not sure that Petzing is in the top of my concerns right now. IF you are blaming the poor execution on him, then it is fair. But the drops and poor passes are not on him in my estimation. The poor blitz pickups… that might be on him.
But the lack of execution looks much more on the players than the play designs and preparation (blitz pickup excluded in my estimation)
Obviously the old formula of pounding opponents on our opening drive with smashmouth football is out the window. Establishing the tone of the game with a 10 play TD drive puts all the tumblers in place. We have yet to do that this year. We miss that same smashmouth capability when it comes time to close out games as well.
I love Gibbs, and he is tougher than expected, but he is not a bruiser. Our offense has definitely shifted away from punch-you-in-the-mouth tough toward a more finesse approach, and it has significantly altered the character of this team, IMO.
The plays look pretty well designed & called at the right times to me.
Petzing gets a passing grade from me so far. Is he Ben Johnson? Obviously not, but not many are.
Petzing is def an upgrade over Morton i think we can all agree.
But i do think its fair to say we have been very slow to start, i think he panthers game was the first time we scored on an opening drive this season and it was a FG. But he has shown to be a very solid playcaller and he gets guys open, Oline looks solid but its still showing some kinks and needs a bit more gelling (and for Miller more reps to look solid). Wouldnt say its fully solved, but compared to the other side of the ball… not a pressing situation atm outside of cleaning up the opening drives and scoring more.
The team is soft! I love Gibbs as well but he should be sharing the load with a bruiser back. Holmes failed, point blank!!! How the hell would you trust Pachecho especially coming off major injuries? Holmes is doing just enough to save his job. To go from grit to cupcake in a 2 year span is all you need to know about this organization.
He also is predictable, offense stall way to often , he may be light years ahead of John mo, but he is light years behind from a Ben Johnson offense. As long as the defense is bad the offense will get a free pass by alot of posters. This offense hasn’t been near as good as it should be with the weapons we have and this schedule
Lol , this is funny but true, there no fire with this team anymore. The grit is gone and cupcakes are being served.
I’d like to add that, what is really bothersome is that even Dan looks shell shocked and burnt out in his interviews
I don’t know what’s going on, but it ain’t good
The run game is too inconsistent.
