On the positive side, Lynn and Ukwu each recorded a sack, and Lynn was credited with a whopping five pressures in 22 snaps, easily the most on the team, which generated 17 as a whole.
Nate Lynn was also initially ruled to have a sack in the 1st quarter on the play initially ruled a fumble by Lock… when Lynn hit his arm just has he was about to throw.
Lions challenged the call of fumble since Giants recovered it downfield, and the play was reversed to an incomplete pass.
Pff gave Houston a 28… now I feel like I gotta go back and watch him closely. Was he really that bad? I saw a couple pressures and a qb hit in the 1st half… at least I thought it was him
Guys… Comeon. This is one of those preseason takes that happen from not being able to see the forest for the trees. Houston will be making this team and playing meaningful snaps. What he did his rookie year was elite. 8 sacks in his first 7 games? Was injured all last season. Lions have got to see whether he’s got that old magic juice or not. Houston is making this team. Von Miller Jr
Houston is making the team or being traded.
Someone would claim he before he made it to the practice squad.
You get 8 sacks in half a season some team will try you in their system even if you don’t fit with Lions.
He also didn’t get to rush the passer much at all.
Lions had base personnel on for the majority of snaps.
Houston was playing SAM and had coverage responsibilities on most pass attempts he saw on the field.
Ukwu, O’Connor, Agude, and Lynn played a total of 113 snaps.
O’Connor did kick inside for a few obvious pass downs. but not many. Betts got a few snaps at edge, and a few at SAM.
The Giants ran 58 plays… so that means 116 snaps for DEs.
IIRC… I didn’t see Houston rush more than 2-3 snaps.
I have to disagree here.
He might make the team.
There are just guys that are more valuable.
Houston is a 1 trick pony and his trick has been figured out.
He is not a complete LB or a 3 down DE.
Guys like him happen all the time. Flash in the pan and they’re gone.
This is where I’m at. I love what he can do rushing the passer, but it seems that’s literally all he can do. Hard to devote an active game day slot to somebody whose contributions are that limited, so hard to see how he beats out other guys for the final 53.
It really depends on his pressure rate. If he forces opponents to account for him even in limited snaps then he’d have more utility than an extra LB or DB
That’s assuming he’s not a major liability if he has to do anything other than rush the qb. Sure seems like they’re giving him every opportunity to prove he can at least stay on the field in non-rush situations without seriously costing the defense, and he’s struggling to show he can do that.
