Going from a BAD NBA team to above average is reality easy. Thats normal growth.
Going from above average to championship? Thats a WHOLE new ball game.
A player going from ok to above average. Thats real expected growth.
Going from above average to All Star? Yea thats hard to do and rare.
Marginal improvement means. 40 wins to 45 wins.
From making the playoffs to winning the first series.
Im sorry but i want CHAMPIONSHIPS!
If yall are ok with the team getting better through development. And winning 45 games and winning the first series. And getting bounced in the 2nd round. Cool. Have fun.
I would swap duren with holland, as far as āCoreā players. Duren I expect to improve even more from this year, which he played well. So keep cade, ivey, duren. While I like holland and ausur, and too early to give up on them, they would be first out. The rest expendable.
Ok but I donāt know what that has to do with Egor. I watched a ton of BigXII basketball since Arizona moved to that conference. My take on Demin:
-Everything else offensively is there IMO
-Iām not shot Dr. but the form isnāt fugly like Lonzo Ball
-heās made some tweaks during the draft process and apparently results are encouraging
-some of his percentage was impacted by a really horrible mid season slump
-his shot selection from deep was fairly miserable at time
-he gets to the mid 30s from 3 and heās going to be a mid level star
In the early teens (though it sounds like heās climbing again) heās a pretty exciting gamble IMO.
Agreed. Duren has 1 elite trait (rebounding), high energy/athleticism and 1 above average skill (big man passing).
Holland? Elite athleticism? Maybe? Also, we already have that with Ausar. Now do we hope Holland develops a shot and can be Ausar with offense? Possible.
To me itās sign Beasley, sign another shooter, get Ivey healthy, run it back, extend Duren and Ivey, sign JJJ. Most realistic path IMO.
The Pistons WITHOUT Ivey and Beef Stew should have taken out the Knicks period.
With Ivey we have:
Cade
Ivey
Aussar
Tobias Harris
Duren
IF the Pistons re-sign Beasley and Dennis (we have cap room) our bench looks like:
Dennis S.
Beasley
Holland
Beef Stew
To me the answer is clear: go after Bobby Portis.
The Pistons are a D and run squad now. Cade hasnāt hit his ceiling yet. Ivey can also handle the ball. Aussar isnāt close to his ceiling and he has a GREAT defensive player for us. Harris is a steady #3 option with an expiring contract.
That looks like an incredible bench to me with Portis.
Cade is the #1 option, Ivery #3, Harris #3, Jalen pick and roll and Aussar is there for energy, defense, driving and open jumpers (which he will hit over time).
I feel like trading away young pieces at this point is a LARGER gamble than gambling on these young guys growing together.
If you want to play it with the young guys. You have 2-3 years.
If you want to make a trade and give up a couple young guys? You have 2-3 years.
So if the window is exactly the same either way. Why NOT trade a younger player for a know asset?
Yes there are ways around the cap. And maybe they dont extend everyone for as much as experts think. However under the new CBA its VERY bad to go over.
Year 1 is fine.
Repeat offenders? Lakers only 3m over. $12m tax bill.
