He’s a solid bench player, and we’re giving the 76ers cap space in exchange for Martin and a couple of picks.
I feel like we really don’t see salary dumps like this in the NFL, so I’m not sure if there’s a great direct comparison.
Martin should come off the bench for us down the stretch here and should be a good piece.
I had no idea who he was. Then I saw he was Kenyon Martins kid and I felt old.
I wish the Lions could guy role players and 2nd round picks like the Pistons just did lol
Including a 2nd round pick for a draft that takes place in 6 years is crazy business.
This is kind of (kind of) like us trading Rodrigo (who comes off the bench) to some team with a 6th round pick to clear up some cap space? I guess?
I’m not sure how far out exactly you can trade picks in the NBA (maybe 8 years?), but I know it’s only three years in the NFL.
One rule I much prefer in the NFL to the NBA.
Also, both those 2nds are gonna be devent value (Mavs and Bucks)
And hes an okay bench piece
Its a good tradevfor the pistons
Yep
We still have ~$14M in cap space (we’re the only team in the league with cap space right now), so we still have plenty of room to either facilitate like this again, or make a move for a starter to replace Ivey as a scorer.
So a Brock Osweiler to Browns trade scenario?
This cant be the only move . Getting the picks is fine, but nba 2nd round are basically 6th or 7th round in the nfl.
Meh. Ok. Not what I was looking for but for $8m next year, he might be on the move again in the offseason. Frontcourt depth is kinds crap though so Ok.
Thanks, I remembered there being a pure salary dump trade in the NFL recently but I couldn’t recall the specifics. The Broncos gave the Browns draft picks in return for eating that horrible contract. They didn’t have an easy out for the salary cap because there were no mitigating circumstances like injuries or conduct detrimental to the team. The Broncos just made a terrible decision in giving a huge contract to a guy who was bad at football.
On a much smaller scale, yeah.
Wow, that bums me out.
I am going to clarify a few details, just because they are so interesting. I know this board is full of football junkies so they will enjoy it.
The Broncos were not the team that signed Brock Osweiller to the big contract, it was the Houston Texans. The Broncos were not willing to match the Texans big offer for Brock. After (1) season, the Texans were “over” the experiment. They traded Brock to the Browns, who were purposely tanking at the time. The Browns happily accepted a 2nd round pick to eat Brock’s salary. The Browns cut Brock before he ever played a game for the Browns. The Broncos picked up Brock “on the cheap” a year after letting him walk. The Texans drafted DeShaun Watson to replace Brock, and the Cleveland Browns completed their dream of going 0-16.
The following draft the Browns took Nick Chubb with the pick they received for taking on Brock’s salary.
OK, is there value in using 2 2nds to move back into the first, does that happen?
That’s right, thanks for the reminder. It’s hard to keep track of the tour of misery that was Brock Osweiler’s career.
He made $41.3 million through it all. Chase Daniel took probably a 10th of the snaps and made $41.8 million, while telling Brock, “Hold my beer”.
