There are some people talking about Lebron which would be very hard for me to get on-board with that flopping primadona.
I will say that Stewart became a liability with the officials but just like Suh I wonder if he gets out of Detroit and they suddenly act like he isnt “the problem”.
I am a HUGE Beef Stew fan. But his playoff performances were simply awful. His box outs were terrible technique and he grabbed and shoved and in general was bad. Stew was given a fair chance in the playoffs but Paul Reed was simply better. Paul hustled, scored and rebounded better than Stew and now Stew is gone. I wish him the best of luck. I loved his toughness but he was terrible V. the Magic AND Cavs.
Stew became a #3 center in the playoffs. And in the playoffs #3s are virtually pointless.
So basically they used Stew to move up in the draft. Also freeing up cap space…. To extend Duren to a 5yr $200m contract. And Thompson to a 5yr $165m contract.
There is a long drawn out way we could bring in Lebron and Brown to pair with Ausar/Cade that is super complicated but man would that be a interesting team for a year
Reed legitimately took over games several times throughout the year and in the playoffs especially…..Stew was very limited and his heart was not enough.
I was hinting at this in my post but the guy has effectively been officiated out of our rotation. There is some merit to it but the reputation he built made him a target every time he was on the court.
Once Tatum got back, there weren’t enough balls on the court for Brown and Tatum together. So I wonder what it would look like with LeBron, Brown and Cade. Don’t think it works chemistry-wise (not to mention budget-wise).
I was too, my man. He forged a very close relationship with Duren and Cade. He was the longest tenured Piston. Hard to beleive he’s a six year vet and still only 25. I really expected him to get better and better, but he sort of plateaued.
If you look at his stats, it seemed that in 2023 and 2024, he was becoming the stretch 5 we needed. JBB came in and obviously thought Stew was too inefficient from 3 (at 33% and 38%!) in 2023 and 2024. His 3P attempts plummeted in 2025 (from 3.8 to 0.7). But his overall FG% rose under JBB…you could say that JBB made him a more efficient player. JBB also made him come off the bench, so his rebounding, 3P, and scoring average steadily declined under JBB. His blocks, however, increased and he became a league leader in FGA% when he was the closest defender.
Through it all, Beef Stew loved Detroit, and had a great relationship with icons like Ben Wallace and Mahorn. He loved the fans, and even loved JBB. All that seemed to go away in the playoffs though. He didn’t complain but you could see how dejected he was getting often less than 10 minutes per game. Never a bad word from him though.
I wish the man well, because if there was ever a player who embodied the Bad Boys and Goin’ to Work teams, it was Stew. I’m really surprised we did not get more for him, but he’s just not the same player as he was just three years ago. Hard to figure out, but he did get hurt alot and after he came back from the injury this year, his minutes decreased alot.
Wish him well. The team won’t quite have the same identity without him.
