Stephen A. usually turns my stomach. But this time he got it right. Each commentator (Perkins, Sharpe, Stephen A.) said some toughness and physicality, i.e. the brawl, is sorely needed in today’s NBA, which has gone overboard in banning pushes, calling every ticky-tack foul, and in general making the game nearly unwatchable.
Perkins was celebrating the fact that a “brawl” (with no punches mind you) took place and harkened back to the Bad Boys. Sharpe said he was entertained. Stephen A. agreed. (The woman, whoever she was, was mis-reading the room and acting like an idiot).
But Stephen A. was cautioning to “not advertise” that fact (i.e. we need a little more roughhousing to make the game interesting again), lest the Pistons get unduly penalized in the future. Never knew he was such a fan of the Bad Boys. He moved up a couple notches in my book.
Honestly i wont get into what he has said you all can look it up on your own, but stephen A has been much more bearable for me when he is talking politics which is the funniest thing to me.
I dont necessarily agree with his stances he just has a very classical discussion style vs the adversarial methods he uses for sports.
Which ironically is how politics are discussed these days, extremely adversarial echo chambers.
Not an invitation for political conversation please as i know it isnt approved in this forum.
Worst part of the brawl was I was streaming the game and had the Wolves broadcast they were Romo-Allen the Wolves to the point where it got to the 4th and I turned it off. One of them literally said that shouldnt be a foul he didnt mean to hit him in the face with his hand.
The funniest part is that people will get suspended for that cat fight. A couple of shoves and grappling. No punches that I saw. It is nice to see the Pistons toughen up though.
The NBA doesn’t know how to handle the fact that people find fights entertaining. The Malice at the Palace got more coverage than your average heavyweight championship match. The analysts dutifully called it bad for the game and said nobody wanted to see it… while the replay of that beer landing on Ron Artest’s smug face ran on a loop on the split screen.
The fights were exciting. I get why they have to limit them. They should just have a penalty box like hockey for basketball. excessive foul? three minute power play.
I don’t need punches either, but damn would I like to see less 3 shooting and more physicality down low. Maybe they should bring back hand checking.
The problem is it can end up in the seats with fans unlike other sports who don’t have fans right on the field with no barriers.
Fortunate the kid didn’t get hurt in this one.
