Players drafted in past years to develop that might be ready?

Levi is healthy and in contract year . B. Martin Dt could provide valuable min . Gilmore cb uda is he ready ? How about the receiver 7th rd last year ? Hendon hooker I hope so . These players were all drafted with the intention to develop ~ is this the year they or any them break out?

A Sorsdal break-out would also be nice. I think with the new DL coach, BroMart has the best chance.

This is what good teams do. Last year is a bust if Iffy doesn’t finally step up his game and he was a BEAST late. Took three years to see that. In his case injuries and a position switch delayed his coming out party.

Derrick Barnes took a while and he still had bumps in 2023 but overall he had a solid season for a 4th rd pick.

TE James Mitchell is in year three.
OG Colby Sorsdal is in year two.
DT BroMart is in year two.
WR Antoine Green year two.
LBer Malcolm Rodriguez is in year three.
Safety Brandon Joseph in year two as an UDFA.
CB Steven Gilmore in year two as an UDFA.
Kayode Awosika is a fourth year UDFA who turns 26 in October. Easy to forget about him but he is viable depth too.
Also easy to forget but James Houston is a 3rd year player who can likely help this club win.

I expect all these guys to push for a roster spot again. There is reason to believe these guys can play. 9 guys that translate to viable NFL depth or more. Fun list to watch develop.

I expect Capt Jack to take a step forward, I expect Jameson to take a step, hell I expect DJ Reader to take a step because his job just got easier playing next to Alim. No, we didn’t draft the last guy but the play of a guy we DID draft is likely to improve HIS play. The needle is pointing north everywhere you look.

I wonder what kind of odds one would get on an Antoine Green 9 tuddies bet.

I’m not even sure he makes the team…but what the hell…

Him not being on the team will make the nine receiving touchdowns all the more impressive.

I think the biggest breakout candidates are:

Hendon Hooker (but it could be one more year if a breakout does happen).
Jameson Williams (started his breakout last year, but a full offseason and TC should help even more).
Jack Campbell - if I had to guess this is the top breakout candidate.
Donovan Peoples-Jones he has the athletic profile to be a good one with a little patience and good coaching.
Ifeatu Melifonwu - seems kind of obvious but his PT should skyrocket this year.

Disagree. I think the staff likes him.
I don’t see 870 and 9tds but 350-400 with 3 TD’s is reasonable for a #4

Houston would make me happiest and who I believe in the most. Just give him his old job back at DE. Don’t ask him to drop into coverage, ever.

I think Sorsdal makes the biggest leap even though he won’t play much. Him getting a year under Zeitler will be exponentially huge for his development plus a year in the weight room. He will be the starting LG in 2025.

I think LaPorta has 100+ catches next year.

It’s all about Iffy, Captain Jack, and Jamo stepping up and taking this team to the Super Bowl as full time full year healthy starters.
All have shown glimpses and now will get the full opportunity as starters from mini camp.

Houston has always been a Sam LB and pass rush specialist (the same position as J. Okwara played)
He is just not strong enough to set an edge against the run to play DE.
There aren’t many plays that the defense even uses a Sam LB as 5 DB (nickel) is predominant personnel group.
Houston is just not a very good Sam LB or a plus Special teams player to get reps.
AG has Barnes and Campbell flip flopping at Sam ahead of Houston.
Barnes, Rodrigo, and JRM are much better Special Teams players so it’s hard to play him there.
Houston is a good pass rush specialist but unless Lions are up big Houston may only see 10-12 snaps a game.

I agree on the “happiest” as I think that would make us a SB contender again.

Not sure I’m in the “believe” camp just yet. I’m still in the “hope” camp until I see how he does in camp.

Depending on where Holmes drafts a WR, Green has an opportunity to Start at WR.
The team would rather have home grown Green win the job over DPJ. Holmes has little invested in DPJ so he could sit on the bench and just play Special Teams or be cut if Green beat him out.
But if Holmes drafts a WR on one of the first two days of the draft, that player will have every opportunity to win the job and have guaranteed roster spot.

It’s amazing to think that this team made it to the NFCCG, and there is still potential for a lot more from so many guys on the roster. Campbell, Jamo, Green, Levi, Sorsdal, Paschal, Martin, Mitchell - if they all take a step forward this season then …

Someone (and I don’t remember who) rightfully told me that Green making impact would be a bit of a longshot. But I believe he and DPJ can hold those 3/4 slots in tandem and that our WR room would be ok as is.

That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t draft a WR if there is a great value to be picked. But it isn’t something that we have to force in my opinion.

Very good Kool-aid!
