Zabel. For now and when Ragnow hangs’em up. Keep the strength the strength. Team only goes anywhere if the pocket holds for Goff and he’s not asked to make anything happen other than deliver on the proper read with enough time.
It’s a close call between Booker and Zabel for me. Booker is a better pure OG in my opinion, but it would be nice to have Zabel as the eventual replacement for Ragnow.
I can understand the DL picks though too. Trenches on both sides of the ball are super important to our success, but OL is what makes this whole team run (no pun intended). I also think there will be some DE available around our 2nd round pick that can be slotted in opposite Hutch and provide what we need.
Easy pick for me with Grant. Having him on the D Line with Mac out for a bit and with Reader/Lopez/Levi/Paschal/Adams/POC all on 1 year deals we can bring in our DT to pair with Mac for the future in Grant.
I agree. I do think Brad is more in line with I love Zabel, love Grant, not really interested in Booker vs choosing between players at a position group?
@Jman - you forgot a pick that would win the poll hands down - He could play almost anywhere - very versatile and is a value pick. His name is Tradarius Downs.
I am no longer sure that happens before Decker. Or before we move on anyway. Ragnow IS 3 years younger, and while the off-season rumblings were bad for a couple of years there, the last couple of off-seasons they’ve been much more positive.
I really like Zabel, but for me Barton was a better prospect.
But at iOL they really have to be something special for me to spend a 1st on them. Quenton Nelson, Steve Hutchinson, DeCastro, Alex Mack. Those are some of the few I would have gone for in the 1st. The elite tier only guys (and DeCastro was sort of a disappointment). But that’s just how I view the spot, I think the value on day 2 is even better.
Right. It kind of depends on how they feel about Manu. Manu’s ceiling is higher than Decker’s was. If they think that’s the case, I see us going with the G/C option.
This is kind of why I didn’t get into the draft too much this year. Is a G/C or a G/T a better option? Info that none of us have.
Honestly there’s a lot more than that we don’t have. We don’t know how the FO really feels about Jamo long-term, or Kerby. We don’t know how they really feel about Rakestraw. We don’t know how they plan to parse out the contracts for our upcoming numbers crunch. We don’t know about Ragnow’s injury, or Davenport’s. We don’t know how they feel about Manu’s progress. On and on and on.
For me, at the very least if you take someone with OG/OT versatility, you have the baseline of a long-term answer at G, with the potential that they can serve as long-term swing/backup tackle OR, if Manu doesn’t work out, perhaps be the plan B at tackle of the future. The reason I prefer that route specifically is that the bulk of starting tackles are early picks, whereas centers and other iOL are regularly found later. If you want a long-term answer at tackle, it almost always comes from the 1st. So really it’s just sort of a process of elimination thing.
I really don’t think Holmes, et al, think about any of those questions when considering early round picks.
I suppose if they are really loaded at a spot, like RB, that might push them off a guy like Hampton. If they love a WR I think they take a WR. If they love a DB, they take that DB.
