They completely changed the scheme on that Buffalo defense. Do not expect the same as what you remember.

We are ridiculously thin at TE and WR to start the season based upon that PS + the 53.

Maybe the plan is to run a lot of extra O=Lineman formations. We do not seem to value a TE that can block.

Lovett doesnāt move the needle either my man! Cedric Wilson and Dortch just made the depth look so much better.

Jamo, ASB, TeSlaa, Raymond. Accounted for 97.6% of all WR snaps last year.
I feel confident that Jamo, ASB, TeSlaa and Martin can do similar. The issue is, whos the Punt Return?
Raymond has done virtually all the PR.
I think Saylors, Small, Vaki and Dorsey can handle the KR no problem.
But PR? All the roster including PS has only has 8 punt returns combined in their career (including pre season)
Assuming perfect health is pretty optimisticā¦
I am very optimistic when it comes to this team but this feels like a mistake. And not just at WR. Both RB and TE alsoā¦
WR4/TE3/RB3 have zero experience playing their offensive position. And that applies to the depth behind them as well. And we arenāt talking due to these guys being rookies. Most of these guys are journeyman who never cracked NFL rosters (referencing the PS too).
I love the starters, but the bench is about as ugly as it can get. Most top heavy offensive team in the league.

RB3 aka saylors is fine: hes very good. In fact. 3rd most YPC in the NFL preseason.
Vaki is always gonna be a ST guy. Which you always need.
TE3 is also almost exclusively used in jumbo packages and ST.
And yes we need a WR4. Martin is okay. But has little game experience in4 years.
Thats my biggest concern right now. PR/ WR4. Has to be a move coming soon
Saylors is fine when he does it in NFL games. Donāt put so much stock into preseason. The guy who leads the league in preseason rushing more times than not you never hear from again. Iām actually kind of sick about hearing how heās the answer. Other teams arenāt worried about himā¦half or more probably never heard of him.
And look around the league. TE is highly valued. If a team has a Jackson Meeks (a nobody) as their TE3, itās because they have 2 legit guys ahead of him. Hell 4 teams kept 5. And LaPorta isnāt some iron man. Heās coming off not only season ending back surgery. But has missed time recently with a hip injury. And Brock is just ok. A serviceable yet weak TE2ā¦
All 3 positions are thin as hell. Iām a Pacheco fan, but right now he barely qualifies as an RB2.
The Lions starters look solid but there are depth issues at RB, WR and TE, offensive line has a ton of question marks as well. I think itās going to be a rocky start to the season for the offense. On the other hand, Iām oddly pretty confident that the defense will be better than people think.
I love the offensive line depth honestly. A lot of solid experience on the bench. Something we donāt have at all at the skill spots.

Welcome to the NFL. Those guys dont grow on trees.
You want an upgrade at RB, TE, WR. You have to find a diamond in the ruff, trade a high draft pick or spend $10m+ in FA. The latter 2 the lions cant do. So, gotta find that diamond.
But so LAR has the best ārosterā in the NFL?
The their RB3 has less than 35 attempts in the last 2 years.
All 3 TEs are 5th round or better picks.
Wr3&4 are late round picks.
So is their bottom 5 really WAAAY better than the Lions? No. Its comparable other than TE. Which again. 3 high draft picks in 5 years. Maybe if brad didnāt waste draft capital moving up for guys with no profile picture they might have been able to do that.
Their backup is Blake Corumā¦they donāt need a RB3. Like we didnāt when we had Montyā¦weird angle there.
I follow every team in the NFL. Roster building/analyzing is something I enjoy wasting my time on. Iāll win a bar tab betting someone I can name 40 players on a random teams 53. I have a memory for the dumbest things lol.
Rams are an odd choice to use as a comparison. I will say their WR depth leaves a lot to be desiredā¦but their TEs are loaded and I already mention Corum.
Lions have one of the strongest starting units in the league. But they might have the weakest depth also. I donāt see how that can be arguedā¦
You can like what we have (I guess) but also recognize itās full of completely unproven nobodies.
Again you can point to Brads drafting failures over the last 3 years. Its no secret how the rams are so good or how Seattle won the SB. You cant afford to have 3-4 mid round busts or heck an entire class gone in a 4 year period or you fall behind.
But again is the Rams weapon group better overall. Sure no argument. But is it light years better? No.
RBs Gibbs >Williams. Pachecco < Corum. Saylors=Rivers.
WR: ASB = Puka. Jamo = Adams.
TeSlaa=Mumphield, Whittington=Martin
TE: Laporta > Higbee, Wright <Allen, Meeks<Klare?
So i get the concern. But our top 4 is better than theirs. Thats 80%+ of snaps and targets.
Our next 6 is a SLIGHT step down. Again sure the big one is Pachecco v Corum. But thats assuming that pachecco wont be healthy at all. Healthy pachecco as a #2 might work great.

The depth, and I mean immediate depth, is as weak as it gets.
We also donāt sport the Rams personnel on defense. If we did, I wouldnāt considered having a deep offense as near pivotal.
