Mooney signed a $3m guaranteed deal. With incentives. (Which if hes healthy all season) will easily add another $3-5m. So again spend ~$10m on a WR3/4 pass.
And i agree With @TouchdownMyPants . People are bringing up the skills positions and DBs, how theres not a lot of experienced veterans in there. That doesnt mean they are bad.
Because again, the only way to get quality depth is draft, spend $10m+ or trade. Lions really couldnât do that this offseason.
And instead they bolstered the trenches. Which if im gonna spend money or high draft capital. Thats the place to put it.

You have seen it over and over with the Lions over the years. A skill player or DB goes down and some âwhose thisâ steps in. Yea the team isnt as good but its still serviceable and functional.
However if you have one of your tench guys go down and you dont have quality depth. Its game over.
Theres a reason why DL gets paid higher than DBs. Or OL gets more money than RB & TE. Because they are indeed more valuable to the team.
Theres a reason why the 2014 lions failed. They had an elite weapon room. And decent dbs. They had an Oline of 40year olds and rookies. And a dline of Suh Ziggy and friends .
Wait. How did they add conklin? Hes a vet. They already have 6. Wait. According to reports it sounds like it COULD be a 53man signing. So another move might be incoming

I would echo this. Boosting the trenches was the first thing this regime did, establishing our identity and eventually changing the culture of the team. I do not have a problem reestablishing that.
As for the WRs, my opinion is they kept the youth there because there are viable WR 4/5 capable vets in free agency still, or at least not offsetting the talent upside of these young players. Not that I particularly want them, but Charlie Jones, Curtis Samuel, Gabe Davis, Sterling Shepard all sitting out there. Would we have a different opinion if any of these guys were on instead?
Charlie Jones is one im keeping my eye on. Perfect option for a WR5 And has PR experience. And younger. Those other guys are too over the hill in my opinion
He was a healthy scratch most of his career. Sounds like the Bengals Tom Kennedy. But get him on PS. Im good to try him

Why are people hyped on him?
Because Dortch is gone, punter returner is a question mark, and he gets open quickly and has good hands, at least in college. On the other hand, I think heâs limited to punter returner as a special teams player. I could be wrong: Thatâs going to be my tag line from now on.
So why not keep dortch then
Because he proved through training camp that he wasnât worth keeping

Charlie Jones? Me personally is because of his punt return ability. And I donât think he had a lot of good opportunities in Cincinnati. Because he was behind the deepest WR room in the NFL.
Chase, Brown, Higgins. With the 4th WR they kept is from the same draft class. But hes much bigger.
And hell be dirt cheap.

As for Dortch. According to reports, as camp went along he was falling down the list. Getting passed by Wilson, Martin and Lucky offensively. But i did like his PR abilities. But i think they will find a WR worth keeping with PR ability

Sometimes our FO slaps together a quality team, that doesnât get complained about much.
Vets on PS:
Tom Kennedy, Amen Ogbongbemiga, Ben Stille, Joe Bachie, Elijah Klein.
Nobody else other than Conklin meets the standard of more than 2 accrued years in the NFL. For practice squad eligibility, a year of accrued time means you must have played in at least 6 games during that season.

Actually, Klein isnât considered a veteran either according to the interwebsâŚ
So theyâre only using 4 of the possible 6 vet spots on the PS

Theres my mistake. UP TO and Including 2 seasons. a season counts after 6 weeks on an active or gameday roster. Klein has exactly 2 seasons.
Which means Cochran is still a ârookieâ only 1 season active.
So only 4 vets: Kennedy, Stille, Amen and Bachie.
