After reading this and seeing the OL injuries they are dealing with not sure how to take what happens with Detroit’s DL vs NY OL which could trickle to the secondary as well.
4. Which battles next week should Lions fans pay attention to?
Traina: I’ll give you three:
WR Malik Nabers versus the Lions’ top cornerback. Nabers has, at times, made Deonte Banks (the Giants’ top cornerback) look lost out there, so I’m looking forward to seeing how he does against a new face.
The Lions defensive front vs. the Giants offensive line. The Giants o-line is still in a state of flux, and it’s had some ups and downs. The second-string line looked horrible the other day. But what I really want to see is how the interior of the first-team line holds up.
The Giants’ pass rush vs. the Liosn o-line. Dexter Lawrence is getting over illness but he’s still better at 50 percent than most people are at 100 percent. So, I’m very interested to see how much pressure the Giants front can get against the Lions.
Nabers is gonna be a superstar.
Can’t wait to see him and Arnold go at it next week.
At what point does Brian Kelly start getting a bit of heat? He’s underperformed their talent level substantially IMO. He can’t miss on many of these extended playoffs in a row and keep that job IMO. Especially with Saban out and what I assume is a shared feeling that West supremacy is up for grabs.
I suspect he’s already getting it. Big blue blood football schools like that don’t tend to have a lot of patience.
Honestly the same thing should be happening to Franklin at Penn State. Saban would have his rosters in the hunt for Natties every year.
What they decided to pay Blake Baker is probably a sign that seat is getting a bit toasty.
Sure, but I think most acknowledge with Franklin that while he can put together a good roster he’s not a very good ball coach.
I don’t think Kelly’s is thought about that way though that may be in the process of changing.
Which is why I find it odd they’re sticking with him. I applaud their loyalty, but it’s the opposite of the way most blue blood football schools handle things.
I also think that often times Penn State is producing great athletes that were merely decent football players. Which is indictment of Franklin as a talent developer. With Kelly I wonder if it’s more game management/strategy bc the top LSU guys are generally both great athletes and great at football.
But who doesn’t want to play for this guy?
Kids given a lot of money.
But not A&M money. They offer hazard pay bc the kids are forced to join the cult.
Ah, but see over time they donate that money back to the cult. What’s yours is ours and all that.
I think they misspelled “nabors”
It will be interesting to see what our pass rush does against their Oline. And if they do really well is it only because john jacob jingleheimer schmidt’s granson is injured along with his buddy Neal and it’s preseason.
Stud receivers are going to make catches. Truthfully, I’m glad to see our new secondary get tested. But it’s not like they aren’t playing some pretty good guys from our own offense.
I never need a written definition of cringe ever again, just that video clip…
When Arnold rips the ball from Nabers’ hands, he should sing him the intro to Mister Rogers.
Here’s my thing with Nabors. I think he’s a wonderkind in terms of WR skills. Separation in particular. But I don’t think he’s a killer like St. I’ve personally seen got to have it downs where he’s dropped an uncontested catchable ball.
I do think he’s a fantasy superstar. I’m unsure that he’s a “style of #1WR that is conducive to winning big.”
He’s playing for the Giants. There will be no “winning big” opportunities there, for any wide receiver.
