He is closing in on a one thousand yard season. He had a really rocky start to his career but this staff stuck by his side the entire way - personally I didn’t see him becoming what he is right now. And the scary thing is he seems to keep getting better
If you count his rushing yards he is already over 1k. Looking for laporta to get 3tds next sunday night and make it to 10 in back to back seasons
Absolutely. There were some people in the offseason that wondered whether we could count on Jamo as a reliable #2 WR. I was one of them. Certainly a huge improvement over Josh Reynolds lol
He has turned into a complete receiver. Blocking, route running, the speed…he does it all.
I think he’s just scratching the surface of his capabilities.
That drop today that was under thrown was his first drop all season.
I’m hoping they have a lot of designed plays waiting to pull out in the playoffs.
How sweet would it be for Jamo, who we only got because of the Vikings trade, to have a huge game on Sunday night and bury Minnesota? That would be so sweet
He’s exceeded the expectations I had for him not too long ago. He might never have his head fully screwed on but he’s a big contributor and yet another guy that we’re going to want to extend when the time comes.
He’s pretty much what I expected and he still has room for growth. It was just a matter of him getting over the injury after Year 1, getting out of his own way in Year 2 with the gambling suspension and having a full clean year of practice and learning the offense. He’s one of the most gifted players in the league and has the dawg mentality to match, you could see it in spades at Bama.
It was only a matter of time until he took off, he would have likely been the top receiver off the board in the 2022 draft if he was healthy. The Lions were a bit lucky that his injury occurred when it did, teams likely didn’t have the patience to redshirt him a year but thankfully we have a “big picture” guy in Brad Holmes who gambles on upside rather than taking the safe pick.
100% to all of this…especially the highlighted part.
Great post, man. I see it too - Jamo still not at his ceiling. LOVE our 'Baama guys.
-Branch → WOW
-Gibby → UNREAL - makes it look so easy he doesn’t get enough credit
-Jamo → Getting closer to his ceiling, and is already a weapon of mass destruction
JaMo is better than I expected.
And by that I mean the route trees he is running and diverse usage. Compared to his first few games it is hard to believe he is the same player.
He needs to spend more time with ARSB. Like stand next to him and catch 200 off the Jugs machine to become a hands catcher. That is the area he needs to improve.
Average yards per game played season…
St. Brown 75 yards
Jamo 74 yards
They also combine for 20 td’s. Not too shabby
4.1
jamo changes EVERYTHING about how teams have to defend us. His impact is so much bigger than his touches, route trees, etc. He’s one bad MF’r. Love that we got him. Brad Holmes has massive balls…Just like Coach Dan!!!
He makes safeties shit their pants which opens it up for everybody else. Really excited about him. Like @Air2theThrown said, just scratching the surface. Jamo could be a 1500 yard WR next year, wouldn’t surprise me at all.
He’s 22nd in receiving yards per game ahead of guys like London and Metcalf.
He appears to be number 1 amongst WRs in yards after catch per target. At least among league leading WRs.
Google’s AI had him at zero drops. Not sure where it pulled that from when I searched last night. PFR has him at two drops an a shiny 2.4% drop rate.
He’s been terrific this year.
100% agree.
Speaking of next year…
#1 offense
Top 3 defense (possibly #1)?
GOAT punter
Best Kicker in the league.
Oh the Jamo new years koolaid Keep em coming.
You say Jamo just got his first drop. I assume you got that from a site. I remember at least two, including the long one that went thru both arms on the goal line against the Bills. In a postgame interview w/Jamo and Saint, the interviewer said that Saint had no drops on the year. Also not true. I remember at least one clear drop. The announcer went on about how rare it was.
This site lists ARSB w/4 and Jamo w/2.
Makes you appreciate how subjective a lot of the judgments that go into counting stats are.
In any case - yes, Jamo has been great and, yes, he should only get better from here.
Course, as we’ve long known, the problem is: how do you keep all these guys? Hutch, Gibbs, Jamo, LaPorta, Branch, Joseph, Campbell… you don’t. So who stays?
Well it was wiped out by a flag. It’s definitely a drop but doesn’t count as 1 cause they accepted the penalty. Lots of technicalities like that that don’t provide the full picture if just looking at stats.
Right you are. I forgot about the penalty.
