It’s early, but there has been improvement. Right now the best line in the NFL is the Giants, and that"s bound to change as the year goes on. Rankings per FO:
It’s funny how when I asked in the off-season that “what if the Lions move Ragnow back to center and Glasgow to OG” and how few people were on-board with this move, even before we knew it was happening. Posters said, “don’t fix what’s not broken”…and now everyone is applauding the move.
The value with Glasgow is that he is very durable, along with other intangibles he brings IE toughness, good locker room guy and high football IQ. He is not going to maul guys, but he is pretty damn solid and can play multiple positions. I have seen many fans saying they have no problem with Glasgow walking, let some other team pay him etc etc and I couldn’t disagree more. I hope the Lions lock him up.
No, easing a guy in? If he wasn’t starting then that MIGHT be an argument, but how can you possibly think that starting him at a position different than the one he played when he was drafted was somehow “easing” him in to that EVENTUAL position?
Just for the sake of adding conversation to the topic, please remember Graham Glasgow played both Center and guard at Michigan. He actually played more games starting at Center than he did it guard. 22 games at Center and 17 as guard. I was just as surprised as most when they chose to keep ragnow at guard last year but hopefully the multiple positions versatility of both players will pay benefits for the team.
The center job carries more responsibility. I’m not sure what Cooter had the center doing but usually the center has the responsibility to call out blocking assignments and make last second adjustments depending on the defensive alignment.
So with an extra year in the system maybe they wanted Glass cow to run center with Rag now gaining experience
We ending up paying approximately the same for Wagner and Lang as Reiff and Warford got paid. So monetarily it was a wash, talent wise I think we got the raw end.
Because the Center is the QB of the offensive line and has to make the line calls. And if you look back, teams have also “eased in” some offensive tackles who turned out to be really good by putting them at OG their first year and then moving them out to OT their second year.
