Yes but having a regular season records mean nothing at all and it was fun, but now it’s getting to the SB and winning it.
Give the team a little grace here…our defense has been depleted come crunch time each of the last two seasons.

Oh i know that. I think with a easy schedule they should do just fine this year. I think the dline will be better. Lb and db are worse then last year. Without branch and kerby im a bit concern about that. AA gone that could hurt as well.

You guys think Rake will play tonight? The CB room is what I’ll mainly be watching for.
These depth charts posted on NFL sites are unoffical and are usually put together by the PR/Marketing/Social Media teams and are in no way reflective of the actual depth chart and sometimes have, quite literally, zero input from the coaching staff. Take these with a grain of salt, even during the regular season - less so during training camp.

No idea why I typed Rake!! Long day at work.
We won 15 games with 16 guys on IR, we didn’t loose them games just because of injuries to the defense. It was that the rest of the team didn’t come in and play to there abilities in some important games.
We don’t lose to the commanders if we are relatively healthy. We weren’t winning the SB with that playoff roster…and that’s what @Martymcfly2017 is upset about…not winning a SB. Because we have won plenty of games.
We lost to the commies because we had 5 turn overs on top of the injuries, the 5 turn overs were the uncommon factor. We did not play to our ability that day. And lost one of the most important games in Lions history.

Everyone thinks talking injuries is “making excuses”, but there’s a reason EVERY SUPER BOWL TEAM THIS CENTURY has been top ten that season in injury luck. Actually I think one of the Mahomes Chiefs teams was 13th, the one that lost to Tampa, but they’re literally the only one outside of the top ten.
Meanwhile of the top 20 “most minutes lost to starters due to injury” seasons this century, only two have winning records: us, the past 2 years. And there are some elite coaches/teams in there with awful records, like Shanny and McVay (granted the latter lost a QB, which exacerbates the issue).
No one ever brings it up because it’s impossible to build content around. It’s either yeah, you were unlucky or no you weren’t. It’s also impossible to predict, and frankly even I would get tired of it. What more is there to say but to acknowledge it happened? But at least acknowledge it.

He’s caught the eye of the coaching staff and is earning more opportunities. With starting cornerback D.J. Reed rehabbing a minor groin injury and missing practice the last week, Whiteside has been getting first-team reps opposite [Rock Ya-Sin]

All true, but we won 15 games in that situation, 5 turn overs is the uncommon factor, now go run a report on on 5 turn over games in the playoffs and see how many advanced ?
I’m not disagreeing with you on if Whiteside is deserving or not. By everything reported and said about him, it seems like he’s having a highly productive camp. If he continues, I expect him to make and have a role on the team.
That being said, it changes nothing about the fact of the depth charts listed on team sites being reliable or not. They’re not official and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Yep along way to go , first preseason game hadn’t been played alot can change, but he is looking good so far and if continues and performs in games as well he will make this team, also seem and were I disagree is that they will keep a lesser player because on a contract or draft status. And I think Dan keeps the best player on the field

I feel like half the posts in this thread must be written by alts of Rakestraw’s family members. Nothing else explains the fervent reactions - to a perfectly reasonable article - in defense of a guy who’s never played a game for the team.
Payton writes maybe one “negative” article for every 6 or 7 he writes. Last year at this time, he speculated that Brodric Martin and Hendon Hooker could be cut. Were you guys beside yourselves then, too? Nothing he wrote in this article was out of pocket. Regardless of whether Rake actually gets cut, Campbell complimented 4 guys before on the other handing directly to Rake. And Campbell’s criticism was merely corroboration of the fact that Rake has been demoted to 2nd team in practice and on the depth chart.
Every article Payton writes these days is engagement farming. Not all are negative, no, but more than 15%. And I have no issue with quoting Dan or any depth chart analysis (though at this stage I think it is entirely useless, but to each his own). My issues was Payton’s conflation of Diggs visiting with Rakestraw’s play. It’s nothing more than due diligence, just like it is at every position. You can go through the board and find everyone bemoaning our DB depth, we NEED to bring more in for visits, and that would be true even if Rake looked like the second coming of Revis. It’s fallacious. But then that’s how the media works nowadays.

You think that team had a chance to win the SB if they beat the commanders? Injuries cost that team a chance at a SB and that’s a fact. It’s also a fact that we turned it over 5 times and that’s largely the reason we lost that particular game. Both can be true!

Only team I can think of is Jacksonville …they came back from 27 down and beat the Chargers. They had like 5 turnovers the Jags did, but the Chargers choked on that big time.
