Rams likely to move Jonah Jackson to C

Rams head coach Sean McVay is “leaning towards” installing offensive lineman Jonah Jackson as the team’s starting center, according to The Athletic’s Jordan Rodrigue.

Jackson signed with the Rams on a three-year, $51MM deal back in March after spending the first four years of his career with the Lions. A shoulder injury in training camp sidelined him for the preseason, but he has been taking reps at center as he ramps up to return.

Jackson has spent almost his entire career at guard, with just 24 career snaps at center — in Week 18 of the 2021 season — per Pro Football Focus. But the Rams are returning both of their starting guards in recently extended Kevin Dotson and 2023 second-round pick Steve Avila, so Jackson’s move to center allows McVay to get his five best offensive linemen on the field.

51 million for a left guard then move him to center. Very strange.

I thought the plan was for Avila to play center. Wonder what happened? Shotgun snapping yips?

Man, I like Jonah Jackson but he has a lengthy injury history. I’d be really leery about moving a guy who can’t stay on the field to Center. Between this and McVay playing Kyren Williams at starting returner, these are head scratchers…

I’ve warned before about Sean’s likilihood of developing Hair gel cranium poisoning.

I’d hate to be a guard starting at center for the first time Sunday night at ford field. Hoping Reader can start but don’t expect it. Rams better run the ball……a lot.

$17 million AAV vs. Creed Humphrey’s $16 mill AAV…

Lol, no kidding.

Thats not going to be a very good environment for a center with about 20 snaps in the league.

The Lions did it with Mike Compton. From 1995 to 1998, he was the team’s starting LG. Then, in 1999, he moved to C.

The Steelers did it with Jeff Hartings. He played RG for the Lions from 1996 to 2000, then shifted to C for the Steelers 2001 to 2006.

However, both had training camp and preseason to make the transition from OG to C.

I’m just happy that Kelly has someone to blame

I hope people make “Boo Kelly!” signs for the game. It would be hilarious. I dont hate her or anything but if you wanna run your mouth on a podcast expect the fans to remember.

I hope the “Jared Goff” chants get replaced with “Kelly’s Podcast sucks!”

Hartings went to the Steelers knowing they wanted him to play center… and he was confident he could play center.

.

Jonah has played center so he can make that jump.

How much he played C at Rutgers isn’t clear.

The only reason Hartings went to the Steelers was because Millen didn’t want to give him the additional $25,000 Hastings was looking for.

That and the opportunity to play C. Some interesting Lions history here:

I’m not sure of all Hartings motives to join the Steelers…m…

but I just wanted to point out that he knew they wanted him to play center from the start.

Jonah may not have had the same discussion.
