Rams/ Vikings facemask question

Since that play was called a Safety, shouldn’t all “scoring plays” supposed to be reviewed?
I only watched until halftime so I only heard about this play the next day.

Yes but not everything within the play is reviewable if that makes sense.

If all the Refs, Booth, and NYC missed it the first time around. They wanted to.
No point pretending.

First of all, florio posting this makes me think the nfl will have no such conversation.

Penalties are not reviewable period… i keep seeing people mentioning scoring plays are reviewable but that has no bearing on their ability to enforce a penalty.

Honestly, applying penalties in review becomes a very slippery slope. When do you stop? Does holding become reviewable? Most every play has some sort of infraction that could be called upon review, is that really what we want?

If you open it up at all to review i think it could only be for personal foul penalties like targeting is today. Only retroactively enforcing/fixing facemasks, roughing the passer, etc. But considering a lot of these calls are viewed as subjective i cringe at the idea of allowing for even more official impact outside of the whistles.

Does the Vikings loss still count as a loss? It does? Ok, I’m good.

The NFL needs to stop making rule changes every year. They need to be less reactionary. Don’t open up reviews to anything that happened on a play. Imagine going to replay to see if we scored and they decide it doesn’t count because of a hold away from the play.

If you play in the NFL there’s going to be times where you get screwed. It sucks. We’ve been on the losing end of many of those. This time it’s the Vikings. But like what was already mentioned, where does it end? Did a missed holding call result in a touchdown earlier in the game? Who knows? Now, moving forward, I think facemasks should be a reviewable penalty. The same with delay of game infractions.

Exactly! This is my main concern for people who want to fix these situations through replay. League wide as well not just our team will be significantly impacted by these penalties.

Maybe.. but we also have to consider where it stops. Facemasks are flavor of the week based on the non call but what about when we instituted pass interference reviews? Looked like some guys got held on that play in the endzone as well should that be enforced through review or just the facemask?

While i do think you could do things like facemasks and delay of games, things that are less subjective, through replay i am just concerned that we see a bad no call on holding and now everyone wants that shit reviewable.

We open the flood gates again and i dont think we stop it.

For sure. I’m more concerned with things that are black and white. I’m certainly willing to allow a little wiggle room on facemasks, but I honestly think the delay of game penalties should be reviewable. We win that Baltimore game two years ago if it’s renewable. That’s not necessarily my reason for having it reviewable, I just think it’s easy to determine, without an ounce of bias. The ball’s either snapped before the clock hits 0.0 or it’s not.

Just thinking when the Lions got screwed with the no pass interference against Cowboys or the Calvin Johnson, did the Vikings fans have a long drawn out conversation. Nope, they took this exact approach:

They got screwed. Sucks for them, good for us. Moving on….

I hope you they get screwed next week too. Chris Christie thinks I’m petty.

It just seems so easy to fix if they wanted to… With obvious calls that is, like that face mask. Eye in the sky camera… Buzzes the ref. Clear facemask penalty. Ref announces it within seconds and the game continues.

It does not work though with the ticky tack close PI or holding calls…cause those are often iffy and it’s a judgement call. But obvious face mask or horse collar… Easy to.fix.

We keep hearing the NFL talk about players safety, too. Facemasking poses a serious threat.
