Ranking the Detroit Lions’ 2024 free agents by importance of re-signing

I disagree with several of those, but thanks for the link nonetheless. It’s a good list of everyone’s status all in the one place.

I don’t agree with the rankings either.

While I’d put GG first, I’d put JRM second, and Reynolds third, and the rest are pretty much meh. Jackson may command far more on the open market than he’s worth and the Lions should spend a 3rd Rd pick on his replacement.

Would like to see Skipper, DPJ, and Vildor back, but I don’t view any of them as priority signings.

I don’t think Dan wants CJGJ back and I happen to agree with him. The article pretty much lost me as soon as they put Vildor like four spots ahead of DPJ and Skipper. No disrespect to Vildor, but him being that high on the list is complete recency bias.

Yeah, I just think this article and most people again are undervaluing the importance of the special teams players. The Lions top STs by snaps last season:

The guys who play all phases of ST:

  1. JRM 426 (UFA)
  2. Pittman 425 (RFA)
  3. Harris 357 (UFA)
  4. Rodrigo 354 (under contract)
  5. Lucas 295 (ERFA)
  6. Dorsey 295 (RFA)
  • #15 Cabinda 137 (UFA) - only 7 games played, he averages more ST snaps/game than anyone not named JRM or Pittman

These are your core special teamers. You have some other ones who play depending on which phase of ST it is, but these guys are the guys who are out there for all 4 phases consistently. And only 1 of them is under contract for next season.

My bet is that there is a priority on bringing these core guys back.

I kind of like vildor. he’s a decent cb to have on the team, especially considering he wasn’t doing dick before he signed with us he stepped right in and played…average. that’s ok for a 3rd or 4th db.

Yea I’d take Vildor back as a depth and special team guy. But if he’s starting no thanks

that’s his role

I would like Lions to think about moving Jacobs to Box Safety Back up Branch. He is abut same size as are safety’s an he would be facing the play an not need to grab as much or over react an get out of position… Just a idea.

  1. Glasgow
  2. JRM
Those are the two we MUST have back.

I know Goff wants Reynolds, so maybe he’s three. I don’t know if I can forgive him yet though.
Ducey - really up to AG and Dan but he did not show much at all.

I’d look to upgrade Jackson with a FA based on the $$ he’ll be asking for.

Number 1 - Will Harris :laughing::laughing::laughing: just for @Mr.Peabody

It’s all fun and games until Will Harris comes back like income tax again next season and blocks a punt to win us the division and home field advantage.

Might I add Will Harris on the veteran benefit special contract where he makes a cool 1.5 on the side

Straight cash homie

He very well could block a punt. There are no receivers located near the punter, and Harris does an excellent job being nowhere near the receivers. I think its inevitable!
