Not for me. It was huge gamble at the time and many of us said as much

Holmesā€™ drafting since the Branch pick has been bad. Too many gambles. Too much falling in love with a guy because [reasons]. Too much too clever by half. Too many tradeups for guys who werenā€™t worth the trade up.

Hopefully theyā€™ve corrected course in ā€˜26 but losing the drafts in ā€˜24 and ā€˜25 will keep the Lions from being an inner circle team for another 3-4 years

Bradā€™s approach to the draft hasnā€™t changed the entire time heā€™s been here. The only difference is that he hasnā€™t hit nearly as well the last couple years.

Heā€™s always identified his guys. Heā€™s always been aggressive in acquiring them. Heā€™s never cared about perceived value, whether itā€™s position or acquistion cost. He is convicted on his guys and it has mostly served him well since heā€™s been a GM.

No one cares when youā€™re hitting. Everyone cares when youā€™re missing. Such is life.

But letā€™s not pretend like his approach is somehow different now than it used to be. Itā€™s the exact same, but the picks just havenā€™t hit or developed like they had in the past.

Absolutely.

Thereā€™s also the ā€œinternet gradeā€ aspect of it. People thought he robbed Minny in the huge move up for Jamo so he gets judged less harsh for that; people thought he overpaid to trade up for TeSlaa, so he gets punished more harshly for that one.

But the truth is weā€™re basing those ā€˜cost evaluationsā€™ on utterly arbitrary fake numbers.

The quality of the draft capital is a big part of it. Slim pickings most years further down in the twenties. And most teams that want to juice quality down there do so by taking character or injury risk. Weā€™ll only go for one of those options.

Though I do think weā€™ll have high quality options at 32 this year. NIL be damned.

Also, can we also stop acting like a rocky start to TeSlaaā€™s camp and a bad first half of the first pre-season game is some sort of lasting indication of his ability? I think some people, who didnā€™t like the pick to begin with, are making way too much of a slow start and taking the opportunity to rehash their grievances against Brad, as if this 3-week period is the definition of TeSlaaā€™s career.

I remember lots (okay, maybe not lots, but a few) of people around here doing the same thing to Brad regarding Jamo well into year two as well.
