There has to be changes next year even if the Wings slip in this year. Cossa is out of options so he has to replace Talbot. Gibson has played well but up there in age. JVR, Appleton, Perron, Kane, Compher and Copp : do we want all these guys around?

Yep, this team needs a complete rebuild/overhaul…and tbh, Steve hasnt earned the chance to do it. His way has failed epically…if he had any pride, he’d resign after this season if they dont somehow make the playoffs. These are HIS guys and this is HIS team, and they are hawt hawt ass juice dog vomit and nothing Steve does this off season will change that.
*and if his name wasnt Steve Yzerman, he’d have been fired by now, if not on the burning hot seat with a firing immediately after another dogshit possum tit season with the dogshit pickeld possum tit team he’s built.

The problem with getting rid of Kane is he is one of our top scorers, which is a sad state of affairs.
I am really at the point just blow it up again. Bring up all the guys from GR, learn to rise to the competition or flame out. I know that won’t happen and is extreme but I really don’t know where they go from here - the status quo sucks, I wouldn’t build around this status quo, so what’s left? Let players develop in the NHL

Heres the problem with the “wait for the kids to develop” method.
After next season. Cat is a FA. Hes gonna need a BIG contract. Copp will be gone. Rassmusen will be a FA. Do you want him back? Likely not. Kasper is gonna need a contract.
Faulk will be gone. JBD will need a contract. cosa is gonna need a contract.
So its not like theres gonna be a ton of cap space.
So your just expecting all these young prospects to magically fill out the top half of the roster their first 2 years in the NHL?
If they arnt all high level players within 2 years. Your talking what? 2029-2030 season is when they will be a true GOOD contender in the NHL?
That is inexcusable. You can cry the prospect pool was empty post Holland.
However it already being 17 years since a Conference finals appearance. (7th longest drought in NHL) and its going to take 2-3 MORE years? Wings very well might be top 3 in longest conference finals drought by then.
Other 6. Teams. Minnesota and Buffalo (both might make it this year)
Toronto and Calgary. Both have been close recently but are likely in rebuild mode now.
Expansion teams seattle and Columbus.

I get its hockeytown because its more than just the Wings. It’s because more high level players and teams are from the area than any other area in this hemisphere. Jr Hockey, college as well kids in highschool.
But yea. The wings havent been the envy of the NHL on over 15 years

This is when you can prove you’re deserving of hockeytown. Anyone can sell a winner. Fill the seats when you’re garbage and you earn the hockeytown designation.

I think it’s time to flip some of the kids for proven NHL talent.
This team is just lacking top end talent IMO.
Our defense could use some help but unless we are gonna win every game 1-0 we need some help on offense.
