I think the nba asks the big obvious number 1 pick where they want to play before the lottery and make sure the player gets their spot. Cade thankfully wanted to be a piston.

Don’t think McDavid would be playing in Edmonton if the NHL draft was rigged. Small market late night west coast Canada is about the last thing the league would want. No, I take that back. It is the last thing.

Edmonton got first OA in the draft several times. Taylor Hall, Nugent Hopkins, Nail Yakupov and McDavid all in a short span. Not to mention getting Leon 3rd overall. They were very bad for a long time. Bettman wants to grow the game in the US. You are 100% right that the last thing he is going to do is give Edmonton Connor McDavid.
This draft class sucks there is no real franchise changing player IMO. Mckenna who is coming out next year is Crosby/McDavid level prospect and is destined for greatness. The NHL should put a rule just like OHL where exceptional status can be granted. Mckenna will gain absolutely nothing by going back for another year of junior hockey. John Tavares was forced to play 4 years in the OHL until his draft year and it stunted his development. He scored 72 goals in his 2nd season as a 16 year old in the OHL after being granted exceptional status and was forced to play 2 more years of junior. NHL needs to wake up
