Red Wings get screwed in the Lotto AGAIN!

So since 2018 (the first year the Wings have been in the Lottery in my lifetime)
The Wings have been one of the most screwed teams in the lottery.

I took the NHL standings vs draft order. And assigned draft pick values based on a few charts i found.

I removed any team with 0-2 lottery selections in that span and heres the results.

MOST SCREWED!
1 Ottawa: 77.2% of original value
2 Detroit: 84.4%
3 Anaheim: 87.4%
4 Nashville: 89.2%

Everyone else is 95-102% aside from the silver spooners

Most lucky
1 Islanders: 161.8% of the original value
2 Rangers: 151.4%
3 Devils: 121.6%
4 Chicago: 114.8%

Its absolutely wild to me that it is that big of a swing.

For reference

Redwings Average 8th in the standings but average 11th in the draft! In 8 lotteries

Ottawa averages 6th in standings but 10th in the draft. In 7 lotteries

Rangers however, finished 11th but average 5th! In 5 lotteries
(Adjusted for value)

Lotteries don’t like Detroit teams. No NBA team had dropped from worst record to sixth, but the Pistons did it 2yrs in a row. At least in this years NHL draft there isn’t a can’t miss generational talent. Hopefully we’ll make the playoffs next year, but 26 is a great year to win the lottery with McKenna being an absolute stud.

it was worst to fifth, but still.
if we had just had slightly better (fourth), but still bad, luck, we would have had Amen Thpmpson and Steven Castle rather than Ausar and Ron Holland. Thats huge.

The Pistons should have gotten Wemby. The biggest rig EVER!

I called the Spurs winning that lotto as soon as the season was over. Just knew the NBA would give Pop another special big man. The lottery is a joke

My bad, I just went on memory which isn’t great I guess. The point still stands that it had never happened and it happened to the Pistons 2 yrs in a row.

I’m shocked, SHOCKED, that the top 3 teams are on the NYC region, followed closely by Chicago. What a wondrous coincidence for the NHL media market.

Definitely something fishy going on. They claim to use the lottery to prevent tanking… But I think it’s a much bigger tool than that. This goes back a long ways for the nba. Ewing to the Knicks was the first lottery. And that was sketchy as ■■■■.

Yeah I remember that vaguely. I was 5 years old at the time but I do remember the controversy and suspicion behind that!

It’s especially bad that there is no transparency with the lottery. They just expect us to believe that things are on the up & up.

I want to see the names bring drawn, and be assured that nothing sketchy is going on.

I don’t believe things are being done fair at this point. I think it’s rigged.

The only thing worse than 9/11 truthers is the “lotto is rigged!” dudes. Sure, the NBA rigged the lotto to give the bustling media market of San Antonio Wemby… Sometimes, you’re just unlucky.

I don’t know Bols…

The nba has extremely high standards of ethics and morals that they would never steer away from. Lol

The teams that have benefited the MOST from the lottery….

are ALL New York area and Chicago.

Big market teams. Hmmm……

That’s my problem with the lottery. They need to make the process transparent.

To be fair, the bottom 3 teams all get the same 14% chance at the top pick in the.nba, so they dropped from Top 3 half the time to 5th.

Red wings should trade the pick

Absolutely. I dont want some 19 year old that wont be in the NHL till 2027 and wont be a top 6/4 player until 2029

Trade that pick plus a few prospects and get someone

I think Yzerman knows he has one more year left.
