Red Wings Off-Season Thread

I mean we have the cap space don’t we? If we want a real star then we will have to pay for it. It’s just the way it works in every sport.

Scored 45 goals and has scored 40 goals in 3 of 6 years. Almost 500 career points

They do have the money. Probably need to give up more then just Larkin though

I’d trade Larkin and a 1st for Johnston :man_shrugging:

He would work as well

Even $13m aav for Robertson Thats roughly 11-11.5% of the salary cap.

Larkin when he signed his extension was 10-10.5% of the cap,

So thats only 1% more of the cap.

Robertson is definitely 1% more than Larkin.

Johnson is a pipe dream. Dallas said hes not going anywhere.

I heard Robertson doesn’t want to sign an extension, so we’d essentially be trading Larkin on a 5 year deal for Robertson on an expiring contract, à la Debrincat. I’m not doing that at all.

Also, the wings need a center. Robertson is good but is he gonna be as good when he’s got Copp or Kasper centering his line? Wingers who score are great and we need those too, but take Larkin out of the equation and we have Kasper. I get why Yzerman said no.

I want Wyatt Johnston too, have been a fan of his for a couple years now, but I’m not surprised Dallas said no.

It’s fine! So we just keep playing the waiting game. Don’t be like Homer.

Respectfully, none of these teams ever had anything. You could argue the Vegas had Dorofeyev, but he was an RFA - there’s no guarantee he would sign a contract here and while getting a young winger back isn’t bad, the Wings are really hurting for a C. The Panthers didn’t move anything of value (NHL talent wise) for Brady - it was a deal for 4 firsts and a 2nd. By all accounts, you can disagree with Yzerman’s plan to get back NHL talent (a hockey trade), but acting like the Wings wiffed on Vegas or Florida deals seems disingenuous to me. Minnesota has never had anything to offer. :man_shrugging:

Dude, I think @DBend144 lives in an alternative universe. Robertson literally turned down a $15m year from Seattle after Dallas agreed to trade him. It’s highly unlikely he would take $15m from the Wings. Let alone $12m.

Who cares? Robertson is an RFA. Even if he’s traded, he has to agree to a deal with a new team. This isn’t Madden. Any deal with Robertson is contingent with him taking a deal with a new team. What fantasy world are we living in where Robertson is turning down $15m a year from Seattle, but saying yes to Detroit?

Also, if you read Ansar’s article. It says that the Stars OFFERED Robertson for Larkin:

The Stars offered Jason Robertson, but there are a couple of hurdles to that potential deal.

For starters, Robertson, a restricted free agent who filed for arbitration, would have to agree to a long-term deal with the Red Wings. Despite his fringe ties to metro Detroit, there is no reason to believe he would do that.

Robertson turned down $15 million a season from Seattle in a proposed trade for futures. The Red Wings aren’t eager to pay him that much even if he wanted to come here. Even with the salary cap increasing, they’d be tying up a large chunk of it to a winger without solving their top-line center dilemma.*

The issue is that Larkin is only choosing teams that are already SUPER tight against the cap to where they’re letting guys go or don’t have assets. It’s ridiculous. 95% of the fan base on every forum, social media, etc, that follows hockey intently thinks that Larkin is being a stupid little shit and being completely unreasonable.

I think that too. Screw that guy.

I’ll keep re-iterating, there are PLENTY of teams that have the assets and quality of players in some capacity that could make a deal with Larkin. As @sin2au posted above, and I mentioned a long time ago in the Larkin thread - ANA and UTA could be very much in play (especially now that ANA has to deal with an 18m Leo Carlsson contract). But other teams like BUF or Philly, etc. Teams that are decent and could actually provide value back…if he added teams like this to his list - I think he’d be gone already.

It’s like he’s playing a dumbass game where he’s intentionally only willing to waive for teams that will ■■■■ Detroit over because they can’t get decent value in return. At this point, I’m beginning to think it’s intentional.

I got asked a question. I never once said Robertson would agree to cone to Detroit. @The_Kid asked a question and I answered that Robertson runs shouldve been skates around Larkin.

I mean, technically, Robertson is a pretty poor skater. He’s improved, but he’s definitely not fleet of foot. He can score goals though. He is really good. But a 40-goal winger is less valuable than a 30-goal center, if we’re being honest. Centers are asked to do so much more in hockey.

It’s actually hilarious to see almost every fan from every team drag Larkin like the loser he is:

Everyone thinks this guy is a loser.

It’s the same everywhere. Reddit, HF Boards, etc. Anywhere hockey fans congregate, they think Larkin is a little bitch. (Unless of course, they’re a fan of a team on his list, then they’re just making up fantasies of trading nothing for him)

Who the ■■■■ knows anymore. Just goes to show how bad any Wings beat writer is. Hard to tell if he actually has expanded to include Dallas or not.
