With approximately six weeks left in the regular season, Olson will probably need to advance to throwing bullpen sessions and facing hitters in the next two weeks in order to have sufficient time to get stretched back out as a starter
Yes he was, wasn’t sure what he was going to give but was a good surprise.
Really not sure who else they have in the minors from a SP standpoint.
Manning Starter or Reliever tbd
Lockhart lots of walks
Flores RP
Madden high k rate with a ton of hits allowed…weird.
Montalvo
Hamm In high A
Melton in AA
The win/loss record for starting pitchers doesn’t mean much anymore. It was more relevant when starters went deep in games. Now the average starter goes about 5 innings…so much time for the bullpen to blow it…or make a comeback. Either way the starter gets a no decision. Whip is a good metric.
IF they are a little bit luckier in the health department they really only need one guy to come through as they’ve got the Ace in Skubal, potential 1b in Jobe next year, and they’ve got the back end four and 5 with Olson and Mize. Assuming they spend a little money on a starter like resigning Flaherty or someone similar, as there are quite a few good starting pitchers out there this year, then they just really need that number 6 starter to appear and they’ve got enough arms to make that happen
I’m skeptical that Jobe makes the team out of spring training, not sure I see it. This current front office is very deliberate in advancement/promotions and I think Jobe starts in AAA. He is good but has things to work on.
