I wanted to be pumped after today too. We all did. A close friend is from Boston and a die hard Pats fan. He never even paid attention to the draft or free agency. They let guys walk, rarely spent big, traded way down, and drafted guys who many didn’t really recognize. But it worked over time.
We ate 77 MILLION in dead cap from Quinn contracts in Holmes first 2 years. Puke!!!
If I was given the final numbers for each signing so far, and had to simply MATCH- for each guy….
We are of course pretending that a cold state, with hard turf, and state income tax would somehow be a tiebreaker to free agents….
Who would I sign…
JC Jackson for 5 years and 82M all day!
Trade a 5th for Cooper…
E Brown
T Walker
J Reynolds- he’s better than ZJones for 1/3 the price
That’s real…. I still we add a WR and surely we add an impact defender.
Do guys think Holmes should be shaving millions of deals and forcing guys to sign here?
Kirk- 21M
J Jackson- 18.25M
Cam Robinson- 16M
Oluokun- 15M
Frank Clark- 15M
Ogunjobi- 14M
L Tomlinson- 14M
Q Diggs- 13M
Fatukasi- 10M
BJ Hill- 10M
Justin Reid- 10M
Engram- 9M
Ozumah- 8M
Z Jones- 8M
T - Walker- 8M
Asking the den, other than J Jackson, who the hell would we want at that price? We can’t pretend these guys are cheaper, that’s the price, so we’d have to be there or higher…. Who?
Reynolds money is a steal at this point. I feel like Walker was a fair deal as well. I have heard the Lions really like Shaun Dion Hamilton and Jalen Elliott. Coaches really like SDH…so something to keep in mind…
Impossible for me to compare or sympathize with a Pats fan. 5 SB wins over the last 20 years (check my math. Just going off my head).
Meanwhile… Lions fans… Dallas refs apologized once.
So far, the exact same team that went 3-13 is coming back. Maybe a year in the systems conjures an extra 6 wins. It could happen.
But you gotta understand if many of us are ready to sleep in our SOL beds.
You’re not returning the same team though. You’re adding 9 draft picks plus a handful of free agents. That’s 1/4 of the roster you’re turning over. Plus you’re getting back an all pro center, a pro bowl tight end and a talented edged rusher. It may look similar on paper but growth and player development could make this an entirely different team.
If onwuzurike comes out this year healthy, bigger and stronger and starts playing up to his talent along with McNeil, okwara and say Hutchinson, that’s a completely different defensive line than last year. Even though it’s basically the same on paper.
It can honestly go either way. That’s the great yet frustrating thing about the nfl. You just don’t know how players are going to play year to year.
We got one FA. Chark. And are you expecting all 9 rookies to play?
And it’ll be a couple different key players who get hurt this year.
We looked at a 3-13 roster and went, “That’ll do!”
It could do, it might do, but in no way can I be excited about it.
If we can get a starter from the draft at WR1, safety, and DE I think we will be way better than last year. I’d like to get a starter at LB but that starts to feel like too much to ask for out of one draft. But three starting studs at those positions I mentioned seems more than doable. Even getting a starting LB might be realistic. It’s not hard to do in the draft simulators anyway…not that those are really a good indicator of what will realistically happen.
I get what you’re saying. I’m not expecting a playoff run this year. Nor am I expecting us to get 9 pro bowlers out of the draft. But all it takes is one or two impact players out of the draft to completely change the dynamics of the team.
Hypothetically, let’s say we draft Hutchinson and a receiver in the first round. They both play up to the hype and have monster rookie years. Let’s say Hutchinson gets 10 sacks and our receiver goes for 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns. Wouldn’t that completely change the team if added to the other solid pieces on the roster?
