Rethinking expectations after win?

Where are we all at now? I believe this team is going to go on a run and win multiple playoff games. I do not believe they can beat the Niners but they can beat any other opponent. Niners are on another level.

Created new thread since things have changed since a month ago.

me expectations

Win at least 10 games. CHECK.

Win the NFC North. CHECK.

Win a playoff game. TBD.

So no changes yet. Lions still need to meet them.

Anything less than 7 Super Bowls over the next 5 years is unacceptable!

This is where I started the season. Honestly part of me is pulling back a little. I don’t know that a playoff win is a must for me anymore. Disappointing for sure, but my thought process is that if you told me in June the Lions were going to win the division and enter the playoffs as the #3 seed, I’d have said that’s a successful season in the progression timeline.

Granted, I could feel entirely different if they actually do lose that home playoff game.

I don’t have any expectations now because I don’t want them to set myself up to be potentially disappointed.

My expectation at the beginning of the season was to win the North and host a playoff game, especially since so many in the media expected/predicted that.

They’re division champs for the first time in 30 years. Everything after that is gravy especially given how bright the future looks.

A home playoff win is the bare minimum.

Oh WE will, I guarantee it. But we will come around after a few days and realize what we accomplished since our 0-10-1 start less than 3 years ago.

Have never changed

Division champs

And now need a playoff win or 2

My expectations will always be playoffs every season. Almost 50% of the league makes the playoffs and I do not think finishing in top half every season is a big ask.

Back in August, I said 11-6 and an NFC Championship loss to the Eagles. A loss to the 49ers in the NFCCG seems more likely now.

Preseason, I was saying 12-13 wins, with 13 being most likely

I was saying division win

Expecting at least one playoff win, with a ceiling of NFC title game loss.

…at that time, I was thinking we were too far behind SF & Philly.

I respect the danger of a SF’r matchup muuuuch more than Philly now.

Ya never know. We shall see.

Win that home playoff game. All expectations will have been met this season. The rest would be house money.

I stated out optimistic, predicting 13 or 14 wins. After Green Bay I scaled it back to 13. But at the moment. not liking the seeming lack of focus on Dallas and the short week.

Otherwise, I’m exactly where I started:

Good season: Win the division or get a playoff win
Very good season: Win the division AND get a playoff win
Excellent season: Play in the NFL championship game
Unreal: Play in the Super Bowl
Dream come true/Die in Peace: Win the Super Bowl

Like Thor said, it’s about seeding, now.

So your lack of focus concern is because you haven’t seen anything from the players or staff commenting on Dallas?

yeah sort of.
i know yesterday was Christmas.
But it was more after the Sunday game. I wished I had heard more commitment to that “this is great but its not the end”. I know that I heard “we’re not done” once or twice, but I wasn’t reading what natty calls Warrior energy…steal you lunch…I’m the bully type attitude.

First, not trying to argue with you but I think a little perspective is needed.

Team just won a title, thirty years after the last one, and the focus post game being on that makes sense, complete sense. Then fly home for Christmas plenty of time to focus on Dallas.

If they lose Saturday and a good chance they do, prior to winning against MN there was a good chance they could lose, it won’t be because it wasn’t mentioned after Sunday’s game.

I also think Jared, and others, did say this is just the beginning in post game interviews, see Pelissaro interview as one example

Do I think there is a chance of a let down due to the energy and emotion, yes, but not because Dallas wasn’t mentioned. I think, more than anything, it will be due to a young team learning to win and this is another part in that process.

Again not picking a fight, so not meant personally.

Of course. I was referring to it as a symptom, not a reason.

Yes.
As I said above, I was referring more to the energy, not the statement.

oh, c’mon now. I clarified it in the post above.

OK, bro, if you say so. Lets chalk it up to not knowing what the other one means then.

I do agree with that. It just seems that everything is falling into place this year, and we should do everything not to waste this opportunity. Including being hyper-focused on Dallas.

Meh, I’m straining at gnats which is what frustrates me on other threads and now I’m doing it…lol.
