Rick Porcello finally re-emerges, officially retires

Was thinking about pitchers who had long careers and would be in the Hall of Pretty Good. Got me to thinking what ever happened to Porcello. An interesting end. zo

He is barely average. 1 big year to screw JV.

Ha! Right on the money.

ERA+ of 99 ( meaning 1% below average adjusted for league and park factors)

1 CY, never made the ballot any other year. Lifetime 4.06 ERA 150 wins because he played on 2 long term good clubs.

1.32 whip, 6.7k/9…entire career screams "Well, at least he was healthy without really sucking ".

Blah, never liked him

He was awesome at making money. Scott Boras :raised_hands:

Boras had Mike I wrapped around his finger.

Porcello was pretty good for the Tigers in 2009 (14-9 as a rookie), 2011 (14-9), and 2013 (13-8), ,and still managed to win double digit games during the other three even number seasons, i.e. two 10-12s and a 15-13.

The best way to describe Porcello as solid.

Wins are a terrible, awful stat to gage pitcher effectiveness. Give up 8 runs in 5 innings but your team scores 11, You get a Win, when in reality you bit ass

He played on 2 great teams with a lot of run support.

Career FIP of 4 isn’t terrible in his era. He was for many years number 4 starter good IMO. He just was way overhyped as an amateur and was generally overpaid.

My favorite is when the closer blows the save and then ends up with the W, meanwhile he almost blew the game.

His xFIP was 5 though…which is baffling, but he was a induce weak contact guy except for a couple seasons.

So, whatever. Blah.Saltine crackers, Ensure. Tuna noodle casserole

Saw him pitch his last spring training game in Lakeland before the bigs, with a guy from down that way known as Chazmaster on the original board. Rented a house on Clearwater Beach 8 years ago or so and had him and his wife over for the Thanksgiving Day game. Great guy, great couple, Lions won so it was that much better.
