RIP Captain

I support this position.

Star Trek Next Gen and its cast of characters was the only must-see tv of the lot. Better than the original series, and certainly better than anything to follow. X-what?

This guy Star Treks!

He was my all time favorite actor. I hated those first two seasons of Picard, but that final season was a great way to wrap up the Characters, really nostalgic. Picard was like my TV space dad. You could tell he was pretty frail in that last season. Its wild that Shatner outlasted him. Guy looks like he has another 30 years in him.”

I found out Michael Jackson died via my uncle rattling off one dead Michael Jackson joke after another.

“Contradicting earlier reports, Michael Jackson did not die in the ambulance from a heart attack. He died in the children’s hospital having a stroke.”

“The coroner was surprised to find a pair of little boys’ underwear wrapped around Jackson’s arm. His friends said it was just a patch, and he was trying to quit.”

If I found out Patrick Stewart died like that I’d cut off all contact with him.

I thought the underwear was going to be a tourniquet joke.
Post covid, it could be a face mask joke too. Timing wasn’t right. I think Jaco wore a mask anyway, so maybe it still works.

I’ve never had a good answer when asked for role models or people I try to emulate. But Patrick Stewart’s passing has made me realize that the Captain Picard character is pretty darned close to what I strive to be, at least in a professional setting (save for my puerile sense of humor).

I cannot honestly say how much of that is coincidence and how much is the influence of that show on an adolescent me.
