When we have Levi and Paschal on the ends…with Reader and Alim inside. That’s tough to run on. Like 1200 pounds of beef on the dline. Maybe more like 1300 pounds. Reader is at least 340

I feel like our run defense had been a bigger issue than our pass rush lately. Was glad to see it back to dominating again. Can’t wait to add Z to the front 4.

Agreed, and I was hoping Paschal coming back would have this effect. It’s really the straw that stirs the drink for our defense.

Linemen Josh Paschal, Alim McNeill and Levi Onwuzurike all played an absurd amount of snaps for big men thanks to the myriad injuries around them. Paschal was on the field for 61 snaps, with McNeill at 59 and Onwuzurike at 58. That’s over 85 percent for each.
Not sure how sustainable that is playing so many reps…but impressive.

Paschal being back has certainly helped because the Lions have been gashed on the edges the last few weeks but I feel like an Alim thread should be started. This guy is now a top 5 DT in the league currently, not only elite against the rush but he has one of the highest pressure rates from the interior in the league especially since Hutch went down. Guy gets better every year, he’s turned into an elite DT IMO.

Playing beside Reader is helping Alim a ton too. He is seeing a lot more 1 on 1’s. Reader eating double teams. Reader aint flashy but he’s a presence you gotta double often.

While that’s true, Alim was starting to break out big time the second half of last season and in the playoffs without much help alongside him.

Paschal might not be the Big Pass Rushing DE that we want, but as a Run Stuffer, you could not ask for a better EDGE to be one
absolutely suffocating RUN D-line, and thats without hutch aswell.

I counted 4 tackles by Paschal within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage or less. He blew up a couple more where Jack cleaned up. Was very impressed. Just gotta keep this guy on the field.

Once we add Za’Darius to the mix I’ll be surprised if anyone can run on us. Makes our LBs jobs much easier too.

More importantly it will thin out the reps so that each can go harder on each play. Levi can play more 3T than he was able to play last night to give Alim a rest.
Z and Levi can rush from inside on pass rushing downs to give Reader a rest.
Levi, Alim, and Paschal played well, but they could probably have played even better if they didn’t have to play 85%, 87%, and 90% of plays respectively.
