There had been some talk recently of a few regular posters who had not contributed in a couple of months, and it prompted one of our members to do a little digging. Hat tip to @CasanovaJack1.
In doing so, he had come across an obituary for a George Ketchman, who if you’ve been here long enough, we know as DeadStroke. Digging a little further here, we noticed DeadStroke has not been seen active since early July, and the obituary lists a passing in Late July in Petoskey. [admin note: we have various tools that helped us identify it is likely him]
George meant a whole lot to this community. His contributions about the Lions and Life in general were insightful and accurate, and sometimes overshadowed by the fact that he knew the salary cap better than most national salary cap Guru figures. In a different world we could have been watching him on NFL Network explain things to the whole world about the inner workings of the cap. We were lucky to have him all to ourselves.
We are going to pin this up here and Nate will have more to say a little bit later tonight, and I’m sorry for the extremely poor and sad news. God Bless and Godspeed George, from us all. Only the Good Die Young.
I hope this isn’t true, but thank you @Weaselpuppy and @CasanovaJack1 for tracking this down. I always loved reading what Deadstroke had to say, and most of the knowledge I have for things cap related came from things he posted here.
One of the best, top posters in den history. He wasn’t a funny guy, but he had incredible knowledge of the salary cap and always kept me in check on roster moves and salary cap related moves. I learned so much from him.
This is a huge loss on the den. @Martymcfly2017 you were asking about him last week.
I really hate to hear that. The Den is as close to family as you can get on a message board and over the years I got a sense of who he was as a man in real life. He will be missed.
This is sad to hear. I always knew when you read his posts the info was right. I hope the Lions do win the Super Bowl and if and when they do, that The Den can post a thread honoring all the great fans that found there way here but didn’t live to see it happen.
RIP Deadstroke.
I’ve also been in and out since college and I’m now 42…
It’s really sad to think about. People you have interacted with for a long time passing away. In some aspects, we interact more with people here than in our daily lives.
Miss you @DeadStroke. The only poster I’ve never doubted at one point or another
I don’t even know what to say in situations like this. All I know is losing someone that’s been a long time instrumental member of this community always hits hard. This one definitely put that sinking feeling in my stomach. So sad to hear. RIP Deadstroke.
Very sorry to hear this and my condolences to his family and friends. Always loved reading his posts. His knowledge of the salary cap was unmatched! And even though I never understood it, I knew he was speaking the truth!
