Itās a completely unexpected outcome for the Jetsā superstar cornerback. While he hasnāt been as good as he once was, allowing a career-high 98.1 passer rating, he was still a huge part of the Jetsā defense.
Sauce has not been great last season and this season. Iām not sure two first round picks were worth it. Even though theyābe played like the best team in the NFL, they have a lot of holes.
Iād add elite left tackles to the list. But it ends there for me. If you are giving up that much youād better be getting a good QB, someone who keeps your QB upright, or someone who will knock down the other teamās QB.
Just a personal thing, but I donāt get this perspective. The Colts are clearly going to be drafting at the end of Round 1 next Spring. And teams regularly trade up. Heck we traded #29 and #73 overall picks for Arnold. If a team does that in April we all just say ācoolā but if a team trades #29 and #24 in November the storyline is ātheyāre mortgaging their futureā and ātheyāre going all in!ā I certainly donāt feel we āmortgaged the futureā with Terrion Arnold anymore than the Colts are doing with Sauce.
In April we toss around mid round picks for guys like Broderic Martin without batting an eye, but trade one of those picks in November and the sky is falling. Itās kinda wild.
Pat Surtain maybe. It might be a situation were the Colts simply made an offer they couldnāt refuse. If the Jets traded Sauce then i expect them to clean house even more.
People falling in love with the name and not the player that he is right now. Could he flip a switch now that heās on a winner? Sure. But, he has been far, far from an āelite, lock down cornerā the last two years. And to justify two firsts(too much imo), he canāt be anything short of Patrick Surtain Jr.-lite, which he has not been.
Bad deal for Indy and I definitely donāt think DJ is a QB thatās going to win the big one for them. Ballard and Co. were definitely on thin ice and pushing all their chips forward though.
