Jim is simply not bald enough for us to hire him.
I agree with you. And - but - We have amazing players. Why is our defense so bad with Hutch, Campbell, etc.
We need a quality DC who can get the most out of our players, not the least. I am SO tired of seeing our DE/DT go back into coverage and watch Barnes â â â â up a blitz, just stand there attached to a Guard, looking around, not even JUMP when the ball is thrown over his head.

Thatâs what Haslam gets for Monkenâing around.
Jim was Tennessees DC for years before coming to the lions asa HC.
he ended up taking a sernior defensive position back with the Titans 21/22 I think
There is a history of him going back to both the Browns and Titans a second timeâŚ
Canât predict the future but he has an MO already for it happening
If we went out and got him, Iâd have so much more faith in our decisions. But I do feel like Shep is our guy

The Lions arguably have as much, or more, defensive talent on our roster. Defensive player of the year finalist Hutch at DE, Alim and Reader inside, first team All Pro Campbell at LB, All Pro Kerby on the back end and Pro Bowl safety Branch. The Lions have as much raw talent on D as any roster.
I would like to introduce you to the Detroit Lions my friend
I like that better than with Dan Campbell where no matter how much talent we accumulate, we have a bad defense.
Million dollar question but people on here get very defensive about the defense. It stuns me.
By most metrics, the Lions had around a top 5 offense last season. And a defense hovering around 21-24 ranking. Itâs a huge reason why we almost had a losing record.
Yet all the talk is about all the new offensive coaches, and improving the OL. Itâs like âyea but if we can take the #5 offense and make it the #3 offense weâll be good!â Feels like improving the bottom 3rd defense would be a much easier and faster approach to improving quickly.
Of the conference championship weekend - we had the Broncos, the Pats and the Hawks. All some of the most dominant defenses in the nfl all season long. The only team that didnât, the Rams, lost, because itâs a lot to ask your offense to put up 35 against a top defense in the NFL in order to win.
Right now the Lions are not a serious contender in my eyes until they improve the defense. They can win 10 or 11 games and get into the playoffs, I believe that. And they can even jump on someone and drop a 30 spot to win a game. But itâs too hard to go to the promised land with a terrible defense IMO.
Lastly, much like the Rams last weekend - when we did make the nfc championship we lost despite scoring 31 because THIRTY ONE in a playoff game is not enough with our terrible man to man bend and break defense
Because heâs been successful at all his stops
Missing just about their entire secondary for like half the season, Hutchinson and McNeil recovering and not 100% coming back from their injuries, McNeil especially who was a complete non-factor, probably had a lot to do with it.

Garrett is better than Hutch.
Alim had a terrible season this past year, but has potential. Heâs not an all-pro though.
Reader is leaving in FA, and wasnât a difference maker anyway.
Jack is an all pro. I agree
Kerby may have a degenerative knee condition thatâll affect the rest of his career.
And Branch just tore his achillies and will likely never be the same again.
He would definitely get a hell of a lot more out of our front seven.
I definitely support him coming in, whether or not heâs still got a bad taste in his mouth for Detroit, who knows? But Iâd love to see what he can do here while focusing solely on defense.
My Schwartz wants out whem Chaka is around.

Itâs called establishing an identity.
I doubt we can fix everything one off season. So might as well let the defense get healthy, gel and work itself out this 2026 and then reassess before making sweeping changes.
Our defensive scheme is contingent upon having healthy man coverage corners. Just like our offense is predicated on having good run blockers
Let get our offense back to the best in the league and we can tinker with the defense after that.
Only in Detroit lions fans imagination are Jim Schwartz and Brian Flores and Vic fangio just dying to quit their current gigs to come be our DC.
He was a Super Bowl winning DC during his time in philly.

I donât think thatâs true. A lot of people thought it was the wrong move to use high draft capital on a veteran rental mid season as if that would fix the problem. I donât think you will find many people who donât think the Lions should invest resources into the defense this offseason. I personally think people overreact during the season. If youâre a player away, sure. The Lions werenât a player away.
As far as firing Shep? I could go either way on it. I think replacing both coordinators is difficult on a team, and clearly Dan felt the offensive staff was the more pressing need. Weâll see.
Do you remember the 93 oilers? I believe it was that team where the owner hired buddy Ryan as defensive coordinator without running it by his head coach Jack pardee. The infighting between the coaches was a huge reason that team didnât win it all. They had the talent.
Can he be a co DC in Detroit
He could be something like Asst HC/defensive pass game coordinator.
