I don’t think Meyer was evil. He’s a brilliant program builder, but winning means everything to him. So much so he compromises ethics. Which is why it’s humorous to see a certain fanbase find Jesus all of a sudden. Fandom is a powerful thing though.
I think it went a bit beyond that, even if he is getting paid more at Florida.
Unfortunately politics got involved and there were some disagreements with some on the board of regents and Ono with the best way to approach certain subjects.
Yes, but what is even more funny is a fan base that calls themselves a model of ethics i.e. Michigan man: honor, sacrifice, pride in your program, and humility in yourself is in trouble with the NCAA for on field cheating and lying to investigators. And all the other supposed Michigan men who stand behind these ideals corrupt themselves defending them.
This also has nothing to do with CS stuff. Ncaa still could suspended moore for a few more games as well. If Michigan just didnt cover it up.and lie about it. Probably would be washed away, and just a fine and a game suspension.
When you find yourself punishing universities, coaches etc for anything other than the “crime” accused, then you have other motives beyond “integrity”. Not that you Marty or you Ted have motives beyond the integrity of the game. One would be crazy to think such a thing.
I think there is a large difference between fans of Umich and the cheating school elements. People support their schools. I don’t think anyone argues they cheated. Yes. They cheated en route to a Natty. They will own that baggage and the title of National Champion forever unless it gets vacated (which I doubt).
I am pretty sure though that handpicking a two game suspension in the middle of the schedule more than a year after the accusation does not really show any sense of integrity.
An interesting question I have been debating is whether Moore really deserves the penalty of a HC of a cheating program. He was OC when it happened, so should he be penalized like an OC that was cheating would have? Is he left holding the bag because the complicit AD and HC left before they could be held responsible?
I think this is a unique opportunity for the NCAA to save face. They should give Moore a half season suspension, and say they cannot do any more because he wasn’t the HC and ultimately responsible. It’s a win win in my opinion. Yes UMich gets the shame, but they also get the damn thing over with. Boo hoo you miss Oklahoma. They will be okay. They have the NIL and brand to win now. Don’t ruin it by dragging this crap out anymore.
