I’d offer the 5th they just got for Okudah, that’s about it. But more likely, wait until during the draft and offer a pick next year after it’s clear they don’t get someone they like better in this year’s draft.
Lance still has plenty of potential, but someone like DTR would be under contract for two years past Lance.
He is intriguing, for sure. But Holmes will be bargain shopping and not pay a premium for him.

He has not yet proven that he can pass in the NFL. He has been injured for most of his short career. I wouldn’t touch him with a 50ft pole.

Overall, my thoughts are:

Lance might interest me as a developmental QB, but I’m not sure he’s ready to be a good #2 backup.

He’s never proved himself as a QB, only as an athlete with a few promising QB traits.

That was my first thought as well. But the price wouldn’t be just a draft pick. He’s on a rookie contract, but as a top five selection he’s not at all a cheap player. You can’t stash him.

I’d personally prefer Trey Lance to Hendon Hooker. I think he’s more talented and obviously younger. I’d rather have Lance than a number of guys who are on their rookie contracts and may well be starting this year (Ridder, Love, Zappe, maybe even Pickett). The chances Lance turns into the player some thought are obviously diminished but I’d say there’s still a chance.

This said, my guess would be that if Lance is moved he’s heading to the Texans. There’s the obvious Ryans / Slowik / 49ers connection. And it would explain all the smoke about the Texans not taking a QB with #2OA. It makes sense for Ryans to target the defense in the draft if he can get a cheap guy that he knows from San Fran, with still quite a lot of runway on his rookie contract and who still has some shot at proving himself.
