I do think 18 is too low, even with all the question marks on defense. It’s still an offense that can put up 30 ppg after all. And while I think Brad’s seat is warmer than it was this time last year, it won’t get hot unless and until shit goes sideways next season.
Crap that holds very little weight. Holds even less weight when it’s done during the offseason too. Preseason rankings for college sports and preseason power rankings for professional sports are so stupid.
I think most of us agree that the Lions have some issues, but it is equally true that March power rankings are silly. Last year, the Patriots were #25 at this point in the off-season. I’m not a fan of the Pats, but they wound up in the Super Bowl.
This is ridiculous. Brad’s seat is nowhere close to being hot, that’s some serious sky is falling shit.
This doesn’t mean that he doesn’t deserve some criticism especially with his refusal to address edge rusher but the man who resurrected this franchise from the dead almost instantly, built a team that made their first NFC Championship in 32 years, first playoff win in 32 years, then followed up with a 15-2 season derailed by a historic amount of injuries isn’t even close to being on the hot seat due to one down season when they still finished 9-8 after yet another injury ravaged season and just plain bad luck with their all world center retiring late in the off-season. Some of the fans need to gain some perspective here.
It’s not some mystical lost mojo. We had critical injuries, our all pro center retired, we lost both coordinators and played the most difficult schedule in the league
there have been plenty of teams who have been near the SB or even won it who have regressed for a year or two because of similar circumstances.
Assuming we can stay average healthy, we should win or be serious contenders for the division again
I am not going to be mad about their opinion at this point. Who knows. We aren’t a finished product.
What I will ask is this: What was Seattle’s ranking last year at this point?
Pile on the low rankings now! This is good. A) we play better as underdogs. B) these pundit rankings apparently mean the world for coach of the year awards. (pundits think your good…no COY award for you!). Maybe MCDC finally gets his this year…bring it on.
Something people tend to bitch about. Crucify the author when they are wrong, or pretend like it never existed when they are proven right. Most of the time it falls somewhere in between and then it’s just a parade of endless excuses. Regardless it’s just meant to get people talking/arguing and generating that click revenue.
Similar to people and their March madness brackets
Power Rankings exist primarily as clickbait and ragebait. “The Jets are too high,” “The Chargers are too low,” “How could you put the Colts ahead of the Giants when they lost to them two weeks ago?”
I’m pretty convinced that some writers make ranking decisions for the engagement.
Super Bowl betting odds are a little better because at least people are putting their money where their mouths are. By that metric, the Lions are somewhere between #8 and #11.
EDIT: I cropped overzealously. The Eagles are also at +1800
Chiefs could have possibly been 16-1 if Mahomes and other starters didn’t rest in week 18.
Chiefs were 6-8 in 2025 with Mahomes as the starter, and have a top 10 pick in this draft after they collapsed in 2025.
Mahomes a very significant knee injury, and his mobility is key to his success. No guarantee that he can mive around as well after that injury (which was same 2 ligaments as RG3 BTW).
Several significant players left the Chiefd in free agency or were traded/released, and a few key parts (Kelce/Chris Jones) are showing their age.
And… Andy Reid is likely nearing the end of his time there.
.
I think he picked the wrong team for that comment.
