SIDELINE PASSES FOR DETROIT LIONS FIRST EVER NFC NORTH TITLE! (great fan video from the game)

I’ve mentioned this before, but I have a buddy who used to be a sports photographer for a wire service. He used to get me a pass to be his assistant, just carry a bag, hang on to this lens til I need it etc. You’d get a long sticker to wear on your pants so security knew you were not some random fan on the sidelines during the game. I went about five times, early 2000s. All relentless beatdowns. Still fun to be in the press rooms, in the chow line with Mitch Albom. Also got to go to a couple of Wings games and met Datsyuk and Zetterberg. And waaaay back in the day when I was a cub reporter and got assigned to do a color story on the Wings in a playoff match with the Oilers when Gretzky was still with them. Had an all-access pass and, if I’d had the balls, I could have gone into the Oilers room post-game. Kinda regret that, but I was there to do a story on the game atmosphere at the Joe and then hustle back to do other assignments. But yeah, walking among those giant human beings on an NFL sideline put things into perspective. These guys are the top .01% physical specimens who play sports.

great memories you will have for a lifetime

that reminded me, I wonder what ever happened to cameraman Big Willie Style, who used to work with one of the TV crews?

I was going to ask about BWS last week, wish he were around here now that the Lions are real contenders. Haven’t seen him get a shoutout by Aikman and Buck for a very long time. If he’s still on that crew, maybe we’ll see him at Dallas Saturday.

I think he seen the world through one particular lens and had lost all patience for anyone seeing it differently. I’m trying to be concise, so that may read as more critical than intended.

I guess Christmas took priority over traveling to this game. First time this year that we didn’t almost take over the other team’s stadium.

As it should.

Besides, Minnesota is not exactly a vacation destination in December.

Oh, forgot the best bit. I was standing on the sideline by myself, when lo and behold who walks up to me and says hello but Jerrah Jones. Little guy with a big cowboy hat. I’m not proud of it, but I said nothing and walked away. The Cowboys had just crushed the Lions. I don’t know if he thought I should be impressed, or what. Literally just the two of us and nobody else around. Now I would at least say hello like a proper human being. Haha.

There were a few Lions fans, but not as many as past away games this year. The Vikes fans i was around were pretty cool. The only bad thing they did was give me Covid.

I have been watching their videos. They are attending every lions game this season. Home and away
