Well I know the Tigers don’t wanna pay 50 million a year for 8 years. They don’t want another Miguel Cabrera contract. So if Skubs comes down on the years I think they can get something done
I think the Tigers are gonna try to win right now while they still have Skubal. It would suck to get nothing for him but I just can’t see them trading him at the deadline unless they were out of a playoff contention which I highly doubt in a weak division. Especially after adding Valdez
Ive heard that the Tigers are willings to do 50 million a year on 4 years…but 5 I am sure that they are open to that too. I just don’t think they want another Cabrera deal, in which, I cannot blame them for that. They believe in Jackson Jobe and they just signed dude yesterday (whop name I can’t even think of from Houston) as insurance. Skubal is either with the Tigers for the last year or he’s traded unless he agrees to a 4/5 year deal
Skubal knows this is probably is last big contract. If they can get him to agree to 6 years and throw in more money a year might be the only way he returns in 2027
I think he easily can get 7 plus years on the open market. That’s assuming he has another monster year. There is risk as a pitcher though not signing and waiting until free agency. Have a down year or get hurt, could cost a player hundreds of millions
I believe you are 100 percent right on this…but I also think that Chris Illitch saw how the Cabrera deal handicapped the Tigers on making moves so he doesn’t want to do that. It’s Skulls age…if this was Jobe he’d do it.
Good point. That’s kinda why I was surprised some players took short term deals with opts outs like Bo, Tucker and Bellinger did. I’d want to get locked in long term before the lockout and possible changes coming.
