Several beat reporters interviewing him and pressing him on the question.

Heā€™s possibly going to get traded tooā€¦

Then Slay is in the wrong business. These types of trades and cuts happen every year. He can go elsewhere and it will happen there as well. He is being a complete tool about this!

um, you can play denial all day and it doesnā€™t change your situation.

anyone can get cut at anytime. Slay needs to separate feeling form fact just like many fans here need to do as well.

Slay showed his colors when he held out - now, here is another reason for him to whine imho ā€¦.

its like the military, you join knowing you may have to take a life but whine about it when it actually happensā€¦ why did you take the job to begin with?!

nowhere in The Book does it say life is fairā€¦ā€¦ deal with it like a real man!

The proper response from Slay publicly should have been "Iā€™m sorry to see him go " or " He will be missed "

Not ā€œWTFā€ and not " This some bullshit here" & not "Anybody can get traded. I personally wouldnā€™t care "

Not when you have already said that you wanted to be a Lion and that you wanted to stay with the organization.

Slay bitching to the media about tough personnel decisions and painting the Lions brass in a bad light is classless.

You can feel all of those things, you just do not say them so the media gets a sound bite.

We trade a team leader who is literally in the first year of his extension and its Slay that needs to show some class for mentioning it?

yep - like learning what acceptance it and doing it like an adult - you know not liking something but rolling with it and not whining to anyone who will listen as your panties got pulled onā€¦ you want to know why he is whining? fear - fear of losing his job.

he is not the coach, not the owner, not the GMā€¦ he is a dude who agreed to playā€¦ so do it.

You know whatā€™s a good thing to do if you donā€™t want your friends to get traded? Win

Another year of garbage from this organization. 5-10-1 here we come. Now, our best player is pissed at the organization. Way to work your magic, Quinn.

I have to admit, this thread took a direction I didnā€™t anticipate.

Not going to bother debating it, but Iā€™ll say Iā€™m surprised.

Yes. I do not pretend that the choice would be popular or that they should like it and you can convey your displeasure to friends and family but you do not as a player bitch to the media or social media and paint you team & itā€™s front office and coaches in a bad light ā€¦You just do not do it .

I think Slay may be saying something because he wants to get out of Detroit too, and this is how many of the players in the league handle things.
Iā€™m really not surprised he said something like that. Had it been an NFL QB (other than Mayfield) I would have been shocked. Maybe it has to do with positions with ā€œdivasā€?

This is the logical fallout of making this kind of move. Why would someone like Slay want to commit to an organization that clearly makes no commitments to its players?

Yes, people can be traded. Just like players can be total mercenaries if they so choose. Most teams and players would prefer to have some sort of a reasonably trusting relationship, even knowing that there are times when ā€œbusiness is businessā€.

By trading Diggs for essentially nothing mid-season, this wasnā€™t just business. It was a giant F you to both Diggs and his teammates who valued him. If this was the fallout of a disagreement between Diggs and coaches or management as some tweets have implied, thatā€™s not a good look for the team either. Itā€™s tough to be a hard-assed dictator when you havenā€™t done anything.

And why the hell should Slay not say anything? If coaches and management donā€™t want to be painted in a bad light, maybe they should stop doing dumb shit that paints them in a bad light.

If you sign a ā€˜starterā€™ contract but donā€™t perform like a starter does that still qualify as trading a starter?

You have to REALLLY careful how you read these things from the locals. These girls tend to get real catty when thereā€™s something juicy to dish.

Before getting out the pitchforks, youā€™ll probably want to hear what was asked and exactly how Slay responded. Our girls from E! did the same thing last year when Slay was messing around talking about practicing outside.
