I know we want everything to just kick ass this season right off the bat , but it’s not going to be great. we JUST began to mold and repair Patricia stink and damage put on the entire team. It is fine to be optimistic nothing against that. but chances are it’s going to be a bit rough idle to start and we won’t win the entire race the first time we suit up and get in this car with this pit crew. next season? little bit better chance. I expect some…hiccups here and there or things that don’t go quite the way they thought this season. To me it’s that expectation vs going all the way like the team has nitrous shoved up it’s backside.
So we might only win 5 games?

I believe we are above the Vegas line. My heart feels like MCDC squeaks out 9 wins season one. My heart says MP had talented players with no desire to play for him. My heart says all our draft picks are on the way to pro bowl status.
Then there’s the brain, sometimes the brain can be a real downer, the brain says if I put a grand on the over, I’m out a grand. I’m going with the brain this time around.

I’d say this. The 2021 Lions are more likely to overachieve than underachieve. In other words, they are more likely to do better than anyone expects given the improved talent levels pretty much everywhere except QB and WR.

I think Patricia took a team that wasn’t that bad on paper and schemed them into the abyss. So I think JUST good coaches will get a lot more than you think out of this defense especially. Our WR’s aren’t great (not September yet and we have money and picks to burn for a better #1/#2 option). But our Oline is better, Hock will be even better, Swift will get Petersons carries and Fells is better than James. I do not think there will be a big drop off with Goff. No he cannot make some of the throws that Matt can. But in that LOS to 15 yards downfield area that sooooo many passes are made, I think Goff will be more accurate.
With Matt, he’d gun it, but often was slightly behind, or low or high. It was still a catch making the stats ok, but Goff seems to have a knack for putting it right on the money in stride. The increased speed of our outside WR’s (and slot guys for that matter) will stretch the defense, creating more room underneath for Hock/Swift/Fells/St. Brown. IMO. I’m not saying playoffs, but I absolutely expect more wins than Patricia even in year one.

I think the hype train full of koolaid is way worse on the 21’ super bowl winning Rams side.
What are we asking for here? A winning season? Able to win 9 games out of 17?
I don’t think that is too much to ask.
Keys to a winning season:
1 Are your coaches in the top half?
2 Is your motivation and preparation are in the top half.
3 Is your talent level and depth are in the top half?
4 Is your luck in the top half?
- If the Lions now have coaches that are better than the top half of the league, that should show quickly! The lions should show up prepared and focused. McVay had his rams revamped and ready game one of 2017. I expect the Lions to look MUCH better within 3 games of 21 or else I will have serious doubts about the new staff.
2)Motivation should be through the roof this season. Getting out from Patricia and to a motivator like Campbell. They will never start the season more motivated than right now.

Talent level ok? I think the Lions have some holes, but there is a lot of hidden talent that just needed some coaching (Okudah for example). Detroit’s talent looked horrible because they were unmotivated and out of position all the time.

How about that luck? The NFL wants underdogs to blossom every year. If the Lions can show start winning early, the ref calls will go in favor, the mindset will improve and all of a sudden you’ll see crazy things like turnover margin will improve as will reduced injuries. It’s a grinding game of motivation and execution that both improve when the mindset is there.
I’m looking for a winning season THIS season or I will have serious doubts about the new regime. At the least they need to finish the season better than they started or there is almost no chance for 22.

I think Patricia got an actual playoff team, shit all over it, then peed on it some more to mark it as his property, dug a hole with a huge backhoe, threw it in, poured a barrel of oil on it, lit it on fire and then told us all it was the players fault for not not being inflammable, all while roasting smores and weenies on a stick over it and chowing down.
Then he got busy REALLY fucking things up.
