I spent a long weekend in Dallas when they get hit by an ice storm on a case and let me tell you it was like the world was going to end and there was no coming back all life would be extinct.
They don’t have any plows and they don’t have sand and they don’t have salt and it was a complete s*** show. They’ll see shut down for 3 days except for us who just drove into Denny’s like normal and the waitresses who somehow got there looked at us like we were Shackleford. How the hell did you get here oh my God wasn’t so dangerous or like it’s not that bad from where we come from, but you got to have the right equipment and everybody has to know what to do and they ain’t got none of that down there
Like all Air Force enlisted personnel I went to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for basic training. I was assigned to the 3701 BMTS (Basic Military Training Squadron). Our motto is Lead, Follow or Get Out of the Way.
When we live down there in Middle Tennessee, we got 4” on a Sunday and they called off school for the entire next week. No equipment, no sand, no salt, no shoulders on the windy hilly roads, and not enough snow to enjoy for a week off LOL
Serious question though is the wind chill just a way to scare people?
When I was young it was just ■■■■■■■ cold outside. Now they got a term for everything. It’s ■■■■■■■ cold but it feels even colder in the wind? Yea no shit. Like it feels warmer when I’m in the forrest talking to Bigfoot.
Wind chill is exactly what you would think it is. It’s the temperature that it feels like with the wind versus the actual temperature.
Personally I pay attention more to the wind chill. With my age and health problems I am only concerned with how cold it feels, and that dictates what I do and where I go.
Rain, sleet, ice.
I fully expect our neighborhood to lose power. We have trees fall on power lines/poles every couple years. Give me snow or rain over this sleet/ice mix.
Thank goodness for acoustic guitars and chess when the power goes out.
Changed my flight from CID to Charlotte to CID to Dallas with Cancun as my end destination. Today, it looks like Charlotte was the safer bet. Flying out at 5:15am tomorrow, the plane will be here tonight. Tomorrow the plane going from Dallas to Cancun is coming in from Columbus but their weather won’t turn until later tomorrow and it lands around 8am Central so everything should be cool as long as Dallas doesn’t shut down before 10am.
20k miles round trip apiece American and we booked this month. 22k apiece to go to Puerto Vallarta in March. 7k apiece to go to Fresno in May then 17k Southwest to come back from San Fran. I got 80k miles last year from American after $1,000 in purchases in like 3 months. I got 100k from SW after $5,000 in purchases over I believe 3 or 4 months but I put my property taxes on there so the balance was easy. It was under $60 to use my card to put property taxes on there.
Now my wife just signed up for the American 80k and that’s a neat trick, never put your wife on your card if you want to play this because she will be denied if you had a joint card. So we got 160k miles in just 13 or 14 months I believe. THAT offer came from an “in flight” deal, BUT, I have turned others on to this, all they need is the code from the offer and good credit. If you have an American Advantage card you aren’t eligible.
Photo’s will be coming from Cancun, staying with a college buddy and his wife in their “lock off”. They rented a full villa and needed someone to rent the lock off so we threw down. Only 6 nights but that’s cool, $500 for a great room and we will be hanging with them in their living room and out on the balcony with great ocean views.
Anyway, it was -14 when I walked to work at 6:30 this am. We haven’t seen temperatures this cold for years. Lucky break at the right time.
