He just wasn’t anything special just an average to below average corner.
Like a DECENT #3 CB thats it.
I wish I wouldn’t have read that.
The guy is a pos, and I am truly happy that we cut him.
I would like to think that moving Sutton to “CB2” would make a huge difference. The problem is he was getting smoked in MAN all year, regardless of who he was covering. Everybody has trouble with guys like Justin Jefferson, etc. But sometimes he wasn’t even in the same zip code as the receiver.
I have pointed out this play before as an example of how AG wants to run his defense. Hutch said the Raiders game was the “real” AG scheme he has been dying to run but couldn’t do it because of the lack of man corners. It is a (7) man pressure package that gets home quickly. What I haven’t shown is the other end of the play. Sutton got smoked on the play. Jimmy G was able to get enough on the pass to get to Adams downfield, and just missed out of bounds. With a little better throw, that would have been a 98 yard touchdown pass. And it wasn’t because it was Davante Adams. Adams didn’t do anything special on the play…nor is he some kind of ultra burner in the speed department. If KJ Obsborne (Vikings #2 WR) ran the same route, he would be just as open.
BTW, weren’t Amik and Carlton were added BEFORE the Sutton incident?
Personally, I don’t think the draft occurs any differently if Sutton hadn’t choked-a-bitch and admitted guilt by entering a diversion program.

I definitely think Holmes still moves up to get Arnold. Not so sure he would have also selected Rakestraw in the 2nd.
Davis, Sutton, Arnold, Moseley, Robertson, Branch would be 6 starter quality players for 3 positions. Adding Rakestraw would be too much.

Not certain of the timing of the FA’s, you may be right. But I do not believe they take both Arnold and Rakestraw 1-2 if Sutton was in the fold. Alas, we’ll never know.
He is the best defenestrative back in the NFL after all.
That sort of insight is what keeps me glued to the Den during the offseason. That and to bask in The New Reality. Is this real life?
You know, peaking into the roster make-up for 2025 and even today, you have a Vildor making the 53, at least until Mosley is activated. Just playing with the names for a minute…
Outside CB: Davis, Mosley, Arnold
N/CB: Sutton, Amik, Rakestraw
N/S: Branch
S: JKerb, Iffy, B-Jo, Moore
That’s 11 DBs in 2024 with Sutton and a healthy Mosley.
Theoretically (with Sutton), you have no Mosley to start, so you roll with 10 or carry Dorsey as the 11th.
In reality, you lose Sutton and replaced him with Vildor.
Now, when Mosley comes off injury, he replaces Vildor or Dorsey.
Or, as typical to the NFL, you suffer injury (Dorsey) and have only 10 DBs to start the season.
Peaking just 1 year into the future, in addition to Sutton being gone, Mosley, Robertson, Davis, Vildor, Iffy, B-Jo, Moore and Dorsey could also be.
JKerb, Branch, Arnold, Rakestraw and potentially Davis. That’s your core. Sutton was stop-gap or maybe a veteran presence at best.
Its not my money so i am just happy this pos isnt on the team anymore.
Is this real life?

Then it ends up being either a complete fabrication or in this case a freaking Misdemeanor charge.
Misdemeanor battery against a female that is likely half his size.
We have our standards here. If the Steelers have lower standards for player conduct then that’s on them.
Did Sutton sing in Bohemian Rapsheety?
PFT cleaned this up nicely, IMO. The diversion program in lieu of felony charges is an admission of wrongdoing.
Rapsheety?

They were signed/traded on March 14 and 13, respectively, which was after Sutton allegedly suplexed his girlfriend out the window and before the Lions “officially” knew.
Rod Wood said that Sutton was working out in Allen Park when they got news of the warrant. That was over a week after the 2 CB additions. It’s unclear if they were aware of Sutton’s version of the events. In any case, they got a headstart on CB upgrades before we had a whiff of what was to come.
Whatever. Water under the bridge. Money is the only issue now.

Money and Cap charges.

Training camp could force a choice is between Vildor and Steven Gilmore for the last CB. Lots of time before that though.
I think Tomlin is a Cam whisperer.
I remember watching that play live and thinking we were so f-ing lucky that the Raiders didn’t pick up the free rusher. If Garappolo had time to put some touch on that pass it would have been the easiest deep ball TD that you could imagine.

Thing is that was probably the worst performance from JG i remember seeing.
Sub 50% completion percentage, under 150 yards… just terrible
