Soto Free Agency

I know Soto has come up a lot in mlb threads… So thought I’d make a thread. @Weaselpuppy is all aboard the Tigers Soto train I know. Most fan bases with money are.

A couple of my buddies are all in on the Jays throwing 500 mill at Soto. I was trying to tell them how dumb that is long term… But I was thinking… The more teams offer and drive up the price, the better. Make it painful for the Yanks to keep him. Hopefully several teams can drive up the price and length of contract. 1 scenario…he accepts and you get Soto at age 26 for a likely overpay, worst case you make the ■■■■■■■ Yanks match and spend an extra 100 mill. Add in some player opt outs mid contract to really ■■■■ with them matching it.

If you can’t tell… I ■■■■■■■ hate Yankees

Would love it, just don’t see it happening.

He’s not gonna sign in a big ballpark

Soto isn’t fat enough to play in Canada.

You are worrying for nothing.

You’re about 100m short based on what Im reading .

Again, back to a previous post, they should reassign ownership approx 65 of the corporately owned pizza pizza stores to Soto, which would cover that $100m gap, generating approx 11m of profit/yr forever. Do it all at once or over the life of contract.

And those newer to the Tigers posting…weve been through this, but…

Yes. Im aware they are separate businesses etc.

So what. Have Chris Illitch tell Chris Illitch to make the sale. Seriously. LC receives market value from Tigers Baseball per store, stores convert to franchise owned, under Soto’s business umbrella, with the agreement that Corporate will find a competent experienced Operator from it’s ranks for Soto.

Lifetime annuity.
Lifetime crazy bread.

Baseball Free Agency is so weird now. One or two guys get insane money and then it’s an alley fight from there on.

Soto is awesome. But $650m? No thank you.

My name isn’t really Stephen Boyd and yet I approve of this message

Drive it up…drive it up. Soto for a billion. Match it cowards. :joy:

It is wild… Then again they are still making a killing… Even the b and c level free agents. The Jays gave KK 10 mill last offsseason… The Tigers gave Madea 40 mill. These dudes are old as shit and suck.

Sure. But the top tier is insane.

As an example, Cava the “health focused” fast food joint did 42m in net income (TTM). It’s valued at $16B.

Juan Soto should sell shares of himself.

Yep… If the market considers u a star get ready… Ohtani got 600 mill in 2035 to DH… Sure might pitch again but he’s had 2 tommy J’s already…

Soto mostly aint a good outfielder… Give him 500 mill…and is likely gonna dh too sooner than later. But homers.

In summary… Hit dingers… Get paid. Hit singles…get benched :joy:

He’s great. He’s not Ohtani.

No one is… If he can pitch. Soto is a better hitter though and 5 years younger
