This is the one I’ve been saying makes the most sense for weeks now…
Edwards wrote. “Cleveland has paid down Smith’s base salary so the Lions will have to pay up for this trade to work.”
He’s suggesting the Lions will have to over pay compensation wise to make the deal happen. I doubt Brad does that. Besides we do not have a 3rd rounder.
I could see a 5th and a 6th with it being a conditional type of trade that could increase depending on how Smith performs.
A move we have all been talking about for a while now. Hell even Zadarious has talked about it. Would be a great move but who else we getting? 1 player ain’t gonna cut it.
lol. The only time I’ve questioned BH was over Houston and man was I wrong on that one. He’s in a tough position. You don’t want to over pay but teams know our draft picks will most likely be in the 26-32 range as well. Interesting we play TN this week, might give us a good long look at Landry.
I have a really hard time how anyone can defend all of the following actions at the same time:
Trading a future 3rd for Gio Manu
Extending Taylor Decker after drafting Manu
Trading a current third for Carlton Davis
Not trading a “valuable” draft pick for Za’Darius Smith or some other EDGE
Brad needs to make A move of some kind at the DE spot. The ONLY reason that the trade deadline should pass with Smith potentially not on our team is because we got outbid. Period.
See, it’s ok to question Brad Holmes. A strong argument could be made that him doing nothing last year cost this fanbase a first ever trip to a SB. Not having Vildor playing majority of snaps in conference championship would’ve been a history changing play. And here we are again. We are standing in the exact same position today, with perhaps even a bigger prize staring us right in the face. I’m losing hope that my Maxx Crosby ‘news’ will come to fruition. I understand the deadline is a week plus away, but it’s starting to feel like history repeating. I’m going to cool my jets for the next 8 days…but if they do nothing of significance it’ll be hard to view Holmes as an elite GM. I’m not stupid. I understand how good he’s been at the most important part of this. He’s done a phenomenal job building through the draft. And I’m sure even he is a little surprised at how quickly he’s put this team in this position. But he has to take the next step. This team is ready. Now!
I don’t think it as easy as saying “Brads not doing his job” because he didn’t bring anyone in. We have no idea what or who he has tried to trade for and no team has unlimited depth at every position. I mean we can give a ton of draft capital for Crosby and 3 weeks from now we’re putting him on IR. Shit happens. I would have liked some more depth at Defensive End position but honestly when Hutch went down we were kind of ■■■■■■.
If Chris Jones went down for KC would they be able to replace him? Do they have depth at DT to make up for him?
