Stafford gonna Stafford

So, just saw he is dead set on playing this weekend even though it doesn’t matter. To me there are two schools of thought here:

  1. the lions shut him down regardless of how he feels to prevent further injury and preserve potential trade value

  2. let him play, and he won’t increase his value much, but at least show he’s a team guy and wants to play, only downside is if he further injured himself

Is that two lines of thought? I dunno, I guess they are kind of linked together… whatever. My point is this!

I was dead set on benching him regardless of how healthy he is, up until about 5 minutes ago when I had this thought…

WORST CASE SCENARIO - he gets really hurt, requires offseason surgery, and nobody is gonna offer the lions more than a 3rd or 4th for him. Sounds really bad huh?

But… what if this happens, he has no trade value but also no upper hand in demanding a trade, he comes back and he mentors the next guy. Then, we resign him for a cheaper 2 year deal and trade him when the new regime thinks the new guy is ready to go. But this way we keep him an extra year for mentoring a la Rogers and Love in GB.

Sorry if this isn’t completely coherent… but if we just play our cards right and let the future unfold, we might end up OK in the long run.

I’m not expecting us to compete next year. But 2022 and 23 I’m hoping we see a brand new NEW ATTITUDE LIONS!

Also no more color rush jerseys they are just ugly.

Thoughts?

I think the Lions need to sit Stafford out this game. To much to risk. Either he will be our QB next year or our number 1 trade asset. Either way I think it would be asinine and right up the Lions alley to play him. Someone needs to make the decision and not leave it up to Stafford.

Will Matt need surgery on his thumb after the season?

Throw screen passes poorly?

Lead an offense that goes long periods of games doing three-and-outs?

Throw an ill-timed INT?

It’s been reported no, but can’t find the link

His contract sets up to be a good bridge to a young QB but I can’t tell if his demeanor and competitiveness lend well to it. It might inspire him
To his best seasons which would make a draft pick on the bench still worth it.

I hsd your same two thoughts them five minutes lster thought
It’d be nice to see him
Play again in lions uniform in case thst is last game

Calvin walked off with 100 yards snd two TDs

This could show those who think “never had any competition to push him” whether they were right or wrong.

Matt has ALWAYS wanted to play, help his team mates, he is very competitive, has no quit, loves the game, feels like he helps give the team a fighting chance.

pardon this example, but he’s like the Rocky Balboa character. “stop the match/fight and I’ll kill ya .”

I would bet if he gets “really hurt” he probably retires. Especially after the medical issues his wife had last year. Not like he hasn’t made enough money

Gotta rack up those meaningless stats.

why do people say that? “gotta get those meaningless stats” what about any other QB that is not going to the playoffs or a bowl but playing the rest of the season out??

are they lumped in as to “gotta rack up those meaningless stats” to? or is that just special , for Stafford that wants to see the season through?

He’s seen all the mocks sending us a QB.

If he is healthy enough to play he should play. You ask all of these guys to fight through pain and injury every week. Your leader should be leading in that area. Trading Stafford is the dumbest idea I have ever heard. Whiny fans need to be told by the new GM and HC to go Fck themselves if they think Stafford is a problem whatsoever.
