Stand Up Comedy Thread

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a comedy club. I used to love to go. The problem is to see anyone decent it’s usually in a large stadium, which sucks to see a comedian. Saw Bill Burr a couple of years ago in a 5000 seat stadium. My tickets were $80 each and he was about a half an inch tall from where I was sitting. Like everything, the prices to see a comedian have exploded. I remember seeing Damon Wayans at a club in the early 90s, about a month after his HBO stand-up special. I was 10 feet from this stage and the tickets cost me $10 ea. Jerry ball was in the audience. I just can’t justify ticket prices anymore for just about any event. Concerts, comedians, sporting events. I realize I have to live life, but I would rather invest that money and find a cheaper alternative.

Interesting topic. I love it.

So, this is my favorite comic right now, Ian Bagg. He’s from Canada I belive.

Stadiums are not good for comedy… I’d love to see Chappelle, Rife, Gillis, etc but I’ll be damned if I go with 10k people in the audience. I think the best is 2-300 ppl… They’re still good in a venue that holds a thousand, but that’s my limit. I like quick, witty comics… A lot of guys I follow post their crowd work online and it’s hilarious

Ugh, that’s the worst part of standup to me. I hate it when stupid drunks are yelling shit.

I do prefer the intimacy of a traditional comedy club, but small theaters are okay, too. By the time a comedian is big enough to do huge theaters or stadiums, it’s usually too expensive and too watered-down for my tastes. The comedy may still be pretty good, but the live experience isn’t additive versus just listening to the recording.

Sometimes it’s drunks, but usually the comedian asks questions or engages the crowd… Sam Morril “solves problems” that he asks the crowd to shout out… He’s quick and has a sarcastic/dry type of humor, it’s really good

Sort of. On one hand, yes I do mean the format of a man on stage. I tend to prefer good sketch comedy for instance, although that genre even when done well has greater quality variance than a top tier standup.

I also just mean that I only get so much entertainment time. A lot goes to sports. And there is so much remaining variety in general. We have more streaming services than necessary. I never get to everything that I’m interested in. So the threshold of quality of a person with a microphone cueing my laughter for 52 minutes isn’t way up there.

You need to scroll some comedians on FB or IG while you’re pooping… Maximize your time friend :joy: doesn’t have to be a full hour set

I like Jim Bruer , Katt Williams, Ron White, Gabriel Fluffy Rodriguez, Bill Burr…

Hey, doesn’t that mean she’s also related to Billy Corgan?

I don’t belong to either one. And I poop to the Bennie Hill theme song. It’s a cherished ritual.

Norm MacDonald and Louis CK are my favorites.

Saw Carlin in concert at Pine Knob. Driving into the parking lot, a dude ran up to a car just up ahead and opened up the rear passenger door and grabbed a girl and starting pummelling her.

The right front passenger got out and had a handgun. God bless America.

Amercans are typically not very funny. Mostly retarded when they try.

This is America today. I’m sorry but it’s true.

Kreischer has a show at PeoplesBank in Hartford tonight. He’s a funny dude but is he filling up 15,000 seat arenas? I’m 2/3 through a bottle of Louis Jadot and this effing thread has got me thinking about checking it out.

I love to laugh, but $48 for nosebleeds to listen to a guy tell jokes is absurd. I can get UCONN basketball seats up there for $10.
