I can’t believe I’m defending Nate Sudfeld because he’s very mediocre BUT he is the best backup the Lions have right now.
As expected, many have instantly fallen in love with Hookers run and trucking of that Giants LB. Something neither Goff nor Sudfeld can do. It’s exiting and gritty and a WOW play. It’s also something Hooker should never do again if he wants to have a long career in the NFL.
He needs to be primarily a pocket passer. Strive to play the game like Mahomes and not Young Lamar Jackson.
Don’t fall for the running part of his game making his ceiling unlimited. If you do, you probably hated Goff at the start and wanted Malik Willis too. Hooker is a super accurate pocket passer that needs to develop a lot to be a franchise QB.
Sudfeld is a pocket passer that is much more of a poor mans Goff right now. Everything was going wrong on Thursday night in the rain with backups. Sudfeld laid a big fat egg no doubt. He is still the most ready to run this team in an emergency.
If Sudfeld had all the starters, he’d know how to run Ben’s offense and move the team. He’d have much easier conditions than the porous, rainy ones he just failed in. Even Goff would have struggled on Thursday playing in the same situation.
Not opposed to a better backup like Teddy if they can find one. As of right now, Sudfeld knows the plays and players. He’s shown in practice he is far more ready than Hooker. Give him the starters and he’d be passable for a game or two. Hooker couldn’t even make it through a quarter running head first at a LB.
I can’t believe this, but I will charge up this hill with you.
Suds knows the offense in and out just as well as Ben and Goff. Stick him behind the starting O-line with the starting offensive players and I believe his performance is night and day.
Let’s face it, besides a few plays from the new CBs against WR3s and Vaki, NOBODY looked good Thursday.
I would submit that you’re overthinking it. Believe your eyes.
In another thread I used Brock Purdy as an example of an inexperienced young QB that can come in and thrive with talent around him and a great OC.
Sudfeld just doesn’t have the arm strength or athleticism to make the throws and manuever in the pocket well enough in order to move the chains and help win games.
If we lose Goff for an extended amount of time I’d rather have Hooker playing. If it’s a game or two sure, but Sudfeld can’t do much besides hand the ball off and not make mistakes. Hooker actually has an upside and if Goff had a major injury I’d much rather go with Hooker.
If we’re relying on a backup QB for a few games, I want the guy that can extend plays, get first downs, and at a minimum get us into FG range. I don’t care if it’s from playing in the pocket, running, or whatever. And that person is Hooker, imo. Is it sustainable long term? Probably not and I don’t care. It’s only(hopefully) for a game or two.
Sudfeld is hot trash.
Cool he knows the offense…
There’s a big difference between knowing and actually performing…
Good thing this team is set up to run, if Goff goes down we aren’t as ■■■■■■ as we could be.
I see I didn’t need to reply. If someone is convinced that Hooker is better (as most are), it’s only because that was fully on display Thursday. Legs have nothing to do with it.
@BearlyThere , I want the kind of drugs you on that makes Nate Sudfield worth a dog nugget ! the guy barely made a first down a few days ago against scrubs, worst QB play I have ever seen as a Lions’ fan.
I still think Tim Boyle is the worst Lions QB I’ve ever seen. Which ironically is another Brad and Dan QB. If you give Sudfeld a completely clean pocket, inside of a dome, with a wide open receiver, I think he makes the throw. Boyle misses.
What good is knowing the playbook if you can’t make the plays?
Hooker has the tangibles and the intangibles. Let him take his lumps. He couldn’t be worse than Nate.
Sorry, Suds. I’m sure you’ll be a great coach.
