Curious, @DeadStroke any changes to Lions cap based on this announcement or same as what was ruled earlier?
I just posted too…

Sutton is lucky to only get 8 games IMO… I think it should have been more.
Nothing YET. Still currently a $6.38m hit this year and $6.54m next year. According to OTC. But we shall see.
Wow! 8 Games → Good thing he didn’t bet on college hoops
This should be good news for the Lions claim he violated his morales clause.
I just did a quick check, and it looks like the 8 games tied Ray Rice for the longest suspension due to domestic violence. Most fell into the 4 to 6 game range.
The NFL must have thought this was pretty serious.
Full year.
The issue is whether the Lions and the NFLPA settled a grievance regarding his signing bonus (or its’ allocation), versus a loss of game day pay, which would be separate. In theory, that would be 8/17ths of his $1,210,000 base pay.
At first I thought your sloth gif was referencing Sutton getting burnt in coverage last season.
That too
In this world of click-bait headlines it’s nice to see something we can all agree on. Sutton definitely has no appeal.
It means we will definitely be getting $4.67M of the $10.5M back, either a credit it this year or next (doesn’t really matter). bit I’m guessing we will see the credit for the suspension this year.
The grievance still has to be heard, as I’ve said all along, I don’t think we will see the results of this until year end reconciliations in February of 2025.
From what OTC has, if we lose the grievance, we’d have to pay Sutton $5.83M and have an additional $1.63M hit the cap (there is currently an estimate of $4.2M cap charge hitting the cap currently).
Curious to see what the NFLPA does as a result of this, it appears they also have a $4.2M cap charge to the Lions for Sutton. What if any will they adjust?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but an 8 game suspension for domestic violence seems like a lot. I kind of was expecting 6 based on past offenses.
Edit: I see @Bols posted a synapsis of domestic violence suspensions above. My guess is the strangulation pushed it over the top and it might have been only 8 if he agreed not to seek an appeal.
