On 971. Mile was talking to Boomer about the hypothetical . Mike said “i would do 3 firsts in a heartbeat “ boomer replied “mike idk if it would cost 2 firsts”

Brad make the deal! But the 971 guys agreed.

The lions are waiting to see “how their guys look” and Crosby is waiting to see how things go.

So if you want crosby.
Darnold needs to have a career game.
And Stafford needs to light up Vegas.

Nope! Looks like Max is part of the rebuild.
Our goal is still the Super Bowl. This, is where the “Grit” comes in.
Not selling the next decade for one shot. No!
Hell no!

I think Hooker has ability but, realistically, he’s never going to see the field as a starting QB for the Lions unless Goff has a catastrophic injury so if they’re giving up two 1sts and getting a 3rd back with Crosby with Hooker being the add from the Lions end, I’d probably do it and I’m one who his hesitant to give up high picks but this would be a pretty good deal for the Lions. This would be a 2 legit SB runs under Crosby’s current contract then, worry about the next step after that.
I’d try to get Minshew in the deal as well to cover the backup QB issue.

Well, we just saw our MVP on defense go down. I would not give up our backup QB as a toss in to a deal.

Hard to know what to say that that proposal without knowing what the tradeoff would be in terms of retaining our own guys next year.

As it is, Crosby is great and the thought of Crosby and Hutch at opposite ends even for ONE year… what Lions fan wouldn’t want to see that?

On its own terms, though, feels pretty danged pricey whennn you consider that in addition to the two firsts and HH, Detroit would have to pay that hefty salary. (Yes, very reasonable salary for a very good player a a premium position, but it’s a LOT.) And for a team whose strategy to remain good over time depends SO heavy on drafting well - and GOOD LORD, Brad has driven himself there - that’s a LOT of draft capital to include in addition to all the rest.

It’s going to be for 2025s 1st and two 2026 picks. Likely won’t go official until Monday. Too bad they couldn’t get this done this week to get him up to speed for Minnesota game. It sucks that Darnold will have all day to take a commanding lead in the division. They’ll still be sitting in a decent spot for wild card so Maxx will be a huge addition. If they do push it across tonight/tomorrow morning, is that enough time to get him on the field Sunday?

May I ask why? What is a 2025 and 2026 first round pick going to bring that is better than Crosby for the next two years? Brad still has round 2 - 7 to cook for the future.

Ya I don’t get this mentality. People are so addicted Ed to the draft. This team is built. They built it. They are close. Push it over the goal line. The 32nd pick in consecutive will net you nothing even close to Crosby. 99/100 anyways.

If signing Isaiah Thomas of the Bengals PS is Holmes solution to this problem he should be tarred and feathered

The Tom Brady aspect has me wondering what te Raiders will do. The owner has already said TB will help find them a QB. I expect a new HC as well. If they go into a full rebuild like the Lions did then they may want as many picks as they can get. If the Raiders lose the next 3 games I’m not sure what will happen.

You’re missing the point. Some of us are “addicted” to the draft because it’s the only way to consistently acquire good talent CHEAPLY. And the Lions need that to give themselves a good chance at a prolonged competitive run. No way around it.

As it is, they’ve paid out big $$$ to Goff, Penei, ARSB, DMo, and Mac. Coming up: Hutch, Kerby, Branch, Gibbs, LaPorta, Jamo. With the possible exception of Jamo, ALL this guys will command big dollars for their positions. We won’t retain them all as it is.

If the cost of re-upping Crosby in a couple years - so you didn’t pay that huge cost for less than 2 years - is losing, say LaPorta, Branch, and two plug-and-play young OL talents we don’t get to take late-first, you’re cool with that?

Not exactly. Myself I just happen to know that if you pull the trigger on this, you’ve got him for the rest of this year as well as the next two years alongside Hutch. I happen to think that outweighs whatever they might get at say - 29 and 32 the next two drafts.

It’s not my money or draft capital to spend. That’s up to the ivy-leaguers in the building. More just saying that I wouldn’t be upset with the potential result.

You’re not hearing me either. It’s not just the two late-firsts. It’s ALSO the players you can’t retain because you decided to take on Crosby’s contact. It’s 2 late-firsts PLUS, say, Kerby Joseph, whose last contract year is 2025, or Jamo. 2026 is also when Hutch will get PAID.

Decide that you want to retain Crosby - makes sense - and the opportunity cost in guys you can’t retain goes up. Now maybe you can’t keep Branch so you’ve lost your young stud safeties AND your two top pix.

It’s no just Crosby >>> draft pix. If it were, half the league would be throwing pix at the Raiders. How you manage the cap matters.

I’ll trade Jamo and Gibbs for Maxx Crosby any day of the week

Ok I’ll put it another way. Some of you are so addicted to signing every single player they draft, even if they are highly replaceable. You don’t give up a shot at a Super Bowl and an all pro DE in the name of keeping a mid WR and a RB (albeit a good one). As their Adam stands now, they have zero chance at winning it all. With Crosby they do. Is the point of this sport to win super bowls or win a few division titles. I would suffer through two 7-10 seasons in 28 and 29 to win a SB in 24 or (and?) 25. Try not to get too brainwashed by this regimes speak to forget about why we’re all here in the first place. This team is good enough to win it all now, and they’re in a good spot moving forward. Great cap shape, young etc.

Says who? What inkling do you have that the people in charge there have no idea how to manipulate and manage the salary cap for the younger guys?

Especially with the cap jumping exponentially over the next few years.

Perhaps if you had a little more faith in them, you’d be on my side. For now though, I suppose we’ll have to respectfully agree to disagree :man_shrugging: :beers:

Our draft picks are less valuable than they used to be.

Not only because they are lower (alot lower).

But also because our needs are fewer and its gonna be hard to play everyone going forward as-is.

Think about who we would get, say even in the late 20’s next year. The talent is pretty much picked over at that point. Sure one need is DE, and maybe OL, but you’re looking at the fifth best guy at that point. Compare that (even two years of that) to Crosby, a proven elite talent, a Michigander who would love to play here.

Give up those beans.

Remember that a comp 3rd is probably coming back for those players. And if AG leaves, multiple comp 3rds which can be packaged into higher picks.

All the talk about 2 firsts is too much for maxx… well at least one of those will be used for a d end. So if that pick is as good as maxx (highly unlikely) its really just the other 1st for a top d end who also is signed for 2 more years and is a high end locker room guy who most likely wants to finish his career in Detroit so he would be a resign. Thats not alot to give up.
