They’ve got six left against both CLE and MIN. They are only two back of the other WC contenders. They’ve been playing at like a 96 win pace since June 1. That pace probably brings them just short but it was a 100 win pace until this recent skid. They absolutely CAN do this. If you don’t get a great deal go for it. BUT you have to get below the luxury tax so Skubal gets you a top 30 pick and another $3.8-4m in bonus pool.

Gives you a starter in brown a couple relief options in Hollowell/Martin a young bat and a young pitcher as well

Simplistic is a nice way to say it.
There’s good reasons why guys like Mr. Baconator there shouldn’t be running a team.
Tarik wants a long term deal, his agent is known to take his players to free agency. So you could offer Skubal the moon and his agent is still going to want take Skubal to free agency to ask for even more.
If thats the path that the Tigers believe will happen, then trade him and get what you can unless you’re making a Championship run THIS year.
I hate trading proven players for prospects but the Tigers really have no choice at this point.

Unfortunately I gotta disagree. Teams looking to win a championship ain’t giving up 3 important starters for 1 pitcher. That defeats the purpose of the trade if you wanna win right now.
More likely 1 decent starter and a few legit prospects.

When will these dunderheads get it through their Noggins that premium Boras clients don’t sign extensions before they hit free agency, especially not reset the market starting pitchers. That’s a very easy history to take a look back and figure out, so social media post like this are just yelling at clouds without even looking where you’re walking, guaranteeing a rake to the face

Why does a team that’s in contention want to give up pieces that are already contributing to the team when their goal is to win the World Series this year. I wouldn’t do that if I were any of those GMs. It’s not how it works.
This is a straight up go for the jugular rental, now that sort of deal makes perfect sense at the beginning of the season
